The Aussiedoodle, sometimes also called an Aussiepoo, is a mixed dog breed that is more popular in the US than they are in Australia. They are a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle. Their friendly, sweet nature makes them a good fit as companions and as working dogs. They can often be found serving as therapy dogs, service dogs, and emotional support animals. Both of the dog breeds in this cross are intelligent with friendly dispositions. As such, Aussiedoodles tend to be intelligent, friendly, and affectionate dogs. This mixed dog breed is very playful and gets along well with children and other people and animals. They make great companions that are devoted to their families and love to be around their humans. Because of the Australian Shepherd in the cross, your Aussiedoodle may inherit herding instincts. If your Aussiedoodle starts showing herding behavior, it can be curbed early on by training to redirect that energy towards more positive outlets. The Aussiedoodle adapts well to change. They do well in most climates, but, as with any dog, do not typically do well in extreme hot or cold. They are best-suited for active families and homes with yards where they can romp around. Aussiedoodles can do well in apartments, as long as they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention. However, they do not like to be alone for long periods of time and they can develop separation anxiety. If you do have to leave your Aussiedoodle alone, make sure to leave them plenty of challenging toys and puzzles to keep them occupied. Although sometimes mixed breeds win the genetic lottery, they can also still sometimes be prone to the health conditions common to both of the parent breeds. The Aussiedoodle is generally a very healthy dog, but some common health issues to be aware of include hypothyroidism , hip dysplasia, deafness, and epilepsy. Checking the genetic history of the parents and asking for the results of any health screens can give you an idea of what to expect in a puppy and allay any health concerns. The Aussiedoodle is known for being an intelligent crossbreed. This often makes them highly trainable. They are also sensitive and eager to please, which means they respond best to positive training techniques focused on rewards and praise. Early socialization and training help your Aussiedoodle puppy grow into a well-adjusted dog. Due to their high energy level, they tend to be a better fit for intermediate to experienced dog owners that know how to handle their energy and keep up with them. Their intelligence, paired with their high energy level and working group background, means they are often easily bored and do best when they have a job to do. The busier and more engaged their job keeps them the better. They also love learning new tricks! Without a job to do, they will find ways to entertain themselves, which can result in unwanted or even destructive behavior. Between the Australian Shepherd and the Standard Poodle , the Aussiedoodle coat colors and patterns vary greatly. With the Poodle in the mix, this mixed dog breed can pick up some hypoallergenic qualities and is often low-shedding. However, they have can long, straight fur, a curly coat, or something in the middle, so be prepared for regular grooming to prevent tangles and matting. You may also need to have them professionally groomed every months. Start getting your puppy used to you handling their paws and ears and brushing their teeth early on. Daily brushing is ideal to help keep tartar buildup at bay. An Aussiedoodle will generally have a moderate to high energy level. A good walk a few times a day paired with some active playtime and plenty of attention will keep this pup happy and healthy. Aussiedoodles are also active and athletic enough to compete in dog sports. They tend to be a good fit for flyball, agility, rally, and obedience. They may also love to swim, which is a great activity to help them expel extra energy. In addition to going swimming with your dog , you can also take your Aussiedoodle on a hike with you or on trips to the dog park. Aussiedoodles are medium-sized dogs that usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Looking at the size of the parents, particularly the mother, can give you a good idea of what size to expect in your Aussiedoodle. An Aussiedoodle generally lives for years. The Mini Aussiedoodle, also sometimes referred to as a Miniature Aussiepoo, is a smaller version of the larger Aussiedoodle. It is a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Miniature Poodle. Their smaller size and sweet disposition make them great companions as well as therapy dogs and emotional support dogs. Miniature Aussiedoodles are friendly, affectionate, devoted to their owners, and highly intelligent. They are lovable balls of fluff with a lot of energy that get along with children, other animals, and other people. Their friendly nature and openness do not generally make them good guard dogs. But, they can be good watchdogs in the sense that they will let you know when someone is around. They may inherit the herding instinct from the Australian Shepherd side. That, paired with their playful nature, could culminate in your Miniature Aussiedoodle attempting to herd family members to keep them in the same place. Training early on can curb any herding tendencies that start to show. Mini Aussiedoodles adapt well to any living situation, but can be more sensitive to weather. Due to their smaller size, they are less able to handle very hot or very cold weather. That is something to keep in mind when you take them outside during the summer or winter. In the winter, keep their coat groomed at a normal or a little longer length and bundle them up with some winter dog gear to help them handle the cold better. They do tend to do best in a home with a yard where they can run around. But, with proper exercise and plenty of attention, these dogs can adapt to apartment living as well. They crave attention from their families, so do not like to be alone for long periods of time. This mixed dog breed can sometimes develop separation anxiety. Oftentimes, a good workout before you leave plus some challenging puzzle toys can help them handle alone time a little bit better. There are health issues to be aware of with any dog breed and mixed breeds are no different. Sometimes the genetic variation in the mixed dog breed can result in some immunity and sometimes the mixed breed is still susceptible to the health conditions common in both parent breeds. Mini Aussiedoodles are generally very healthy dogs, but some health conditions to be aware of are deafness, allergies, epilepsy , hypothyroidism, and hip dysplasia. The genetic history of the parents and the results of any health tests can help you determine what to expect and allay any potential health concerns. Between their intelligence and their higher energy level, Miniature Aussiedoodles are highly trainable, but they can also be a handful. Dog owners with some experience with high energy breeds tend to be a better fit for this mixed dog breed. Novice owners can have success as long as they live an active lifestyle, are capable of handling a high-energy dog, and are willing to enroll in obedience classes to help them nail positive training techniques. Mini Aussiedoodles love having a job to do and are eager to please. This mixed dog breed will pick up on things easily, but will also tend to get bored. Ensuring they have a job to do goes a long way in keeping this energetic pup occupied. They also tend to be athletic, so can be good candidates for dog sports like rally, obedience, flyball, and agility. Because of the mix between the Australian Shepherd and the Miniature Poodle , coat colors and patterns will vary with the Miniature Aussiedoodle. The texture will be soft and will likely be low-shedding with some hypoallergenic properties. However, their coat is not low maintenance. It can be long and straight, curly, or anything between. You will want to brush your Mini Aussiedoodle a few times a week to keep their fur free of tangles and to prevent matting. You will also want to get them professionally groomed every months. Their ears will need to be checked regularly to ensure they are clean and dry and their nails will need to be trimmed once or twice monthly. Daily tooth brushing is ideal to prevent tartar buildup. Getting your puppy used to having their paws and ears handled and introducing them to having their teeth brushed early on will make grooming and care much easier as they grow. This is a moderate to high energy mixed dog breed that needs plenty of exercise, attention, and mental stimulation to remain happy and healthy. Walks a few times a day and active playtime every day should be sufficient. This pup requires an active lifestyle, so engaging in more rigorous activities like swimming, hiking, dog sports, or taking trips to the dog park are also a good idea. Ongoing training and ensuring your Mini Aussiedoodle always has a job to do will keep your pup happy and generally well-behaved. If left without a job or proper exercise, they will often find ways to entertain themselves, which can result in destructive behavior. Just like in human nutrition, different ingredients in dog and cat food can help or harm your pet. These are seven ingredients to avoid in pet food. Best dog food brands in the Philippines Different types of dog food The first step to choosing the right dog food is understanding its many types. There are five types of dog food that you need to know about: dry, canned, semi-moist, home-cooked, and raw. Dry food Otherwise known as kibbles, this is the typical dog food you see in many pet and grocery stores. Dry food is the conventional choice for many dog owners because of its affordable price, easy preparation, and long shelf life. Always read the labels when shopping for dry dog food. Also look for essential vitamins and minerals like vitamin A, E, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and potassium. It has a long shelf life but is a little bit more expensive than dry food. This will give you an idea of how much fat and protein it contains. These are snacks made to look like bacon, pork chops, or hot dogs. Semi-moist food contains more sugar, salt, artificial flavors and colors than dry or canned meals, so use it sparingly. Home-cooked Aside from store-bought food, pet owners can prepare meals from scratch for their fur babies. Home-made diets haven't been proven to be 'better' than ready-made dog food, but whole and unprocessed ingredients are well-known to have long-term benefits. When preparing home-cooked dog food, you should include proteins such as beef, turkey, lamb, chicken, pork, tuna, and the occasional egg. Avoid fatty cuts or anything covered in garlic or various seasonings. Take great care to remove chicken bones since they tend to splinter. You can also include vegetables such as peas, carrots, spinach, cucumbers, pumpkin, sweet potato, and corn. Carbohydrates like rice, pasta, oatmeal, and even quinoa are also important. Avoid including alcohol, avocados, chocolate, coffee, garlic, grapes, raisins, mint, and artificial flavors in their meals. While most of us would prefer to prepare home-cooked food for our pets, it can be expensive and time-consuming. Raw Dogs are carnivores, so a raw diet is an obvious choice for many dog owners. A raw diet can comprise of organ and muscle meat, whole or ground bone, raw eggs, dog-safe fruits and veggies, and even dairy products. It can be home-made, freeze-dried, or dehydrated. However, before you transition to a raw diet, be sure to consult your veterinarian. Although these mostly cover the basics, they might not have all the nutritional needs of a growing puppy or a nursing mother. Many veterinarians recommend feeding your dog according to their life stage to maintain optimal health and wellness. Puppy 0 to 9 months From birth to nine months old, puppies need the right amount of nutrition to support their growth and development. At six to eight weeks, they need to be fed as often as four to six meals a day. Puppy dog food should include high amounts of calcium and protein to support bone and muscle growth, especially for large breeds. After weaning, they lose their ability to digest lactose. Although small amounts can be tolerated, milk may cause an upset stomach and diarrhea. Overweight dogs need less fat and protein and vice versa for underweight dogs. Ingredients like prebiotics and probiotics help maintain a healthy gut by promoting microbial populations. Increased omega-3 fatty acids can combat inflammation and help promote a stronger vascular system. Glucosamine can also help promote joint health and combat arthritis. What might work for other dogs may not work for yours. As descendants of wolves, early hunting dogs are capable of ingesting large portions of food before going for days without eating. However, dividing meals once or twice per day is recommended for household pets these days. Regardless of their feeding schedule, never allow your dog to exercise after a big meal, especially when they consume it rapidly. This can help avoid intestinal obstruction, bloating, and other digestive problems. Should I avoid grain in dog food? Unless your dog suffers from intolerances to grains or carbohydrate malabsorption, a small amount of gluten-free grain can serve as part of a healthy diet. If not, it's best to feed your dog grain-free dog food packed with nutrition to help them stay healthy and active. What if my dog has allergies? Believe it or not, dogs can be allergic to certain foods. Meat, dairy products, and eggs are some of the most common allergens for dogs. If you see symptoms such as redness in the skin or paws and loss of coat, try switching to a different protein source until you have narrowed down the source of the allergy. How to Choose Puppy Food — Buying Guide Here are some key points to consider: Wet or dry food: pick the type that's best for your puppy. Look for high-quality and nourishing ingredients to support development. Consult your vet to check if your puppy has special needs. For more detailed information, read through our buying guide below. Here are some of the differences between dry and wet food to help you choose the right one. They can also be easily ingested because they commonly come with softened meat chunks. Wet foods are also more flavorful and aromatic for dogs, which is why most of them prefer them, especially picky eaters. Moreover, if your fur baby is sick and has less appetite, wet food can entice your pup to eat because of its flavorful smell and taste. Dry Foods Are Convenient and Have Dental Benefits Compared to wet food, dry food or kibbles do not spoil easily and can be pre-portioned. They are also cheaper than the other type, making it a more cost-efficient diet for your puppy. Moreover, dry food encourages your pup to chew on their food, which helps remove tartar buildup and encourages the development of stronger teeth. You can always pick breed-specific puppy foods, but below are some tips for easier selection. For Smaller Breeds, Choose Small-Sized Kibbles and Chunks If you have a chihuahua, a toy-sized shih tzu, or a poodle, opt for small-sized kibble and chunks, whether it is dry or wet. This is so that your puppy can easily chew and ingest the food. Moreover, small breeds require a higher amount of protein and calories compared to larger breeds because they are more active and have higher energy levels. As their bones grow faster, it is recommended to choose puppy food with the appropriate calcium-to-phosphorus ratio of to 1. This prevents joint and muscle diseases like developmental orthopedic disease DOD. Moreover, large breed puppy foods typically come in larger sizes, so be careful not to overfeed them to avoid getting them overweight. This is also why their food has fewer calories than small-breed puppy foods. Franz Philip Joseph R. Ubaldo Regular weighing of large breed puppies is important. In the first months, large breed puppies grow way more than the smaller breed ones making the adjustment of their food portions more crucial in ensuring they get the proper amount of food to sustain their rapid growth. Puppies also have a lot of energy, so it is important that their food contains a good amount of calories and carbohydrates. Steer Clear of Puppy Food Made With Meat By-Products Part of ensuring that your puppy is eating safe and nourishing foods is avoiding those that are made of meat by-products. With this in mind, always remember to check the label and choose puppy foods with real meat. They may be allergic to a certain type of meat or ingredient found in most puppy foods, so you have to be picky when selecting one. Ubaldo Aside from food allergies, food intolerance is another concern in puppies that pet owners need to be aware of. This is different from allergies because it does not involve the immune system and can just cause transient gastrointestinal problems like one-off vomiting, stomach pain, or stool changes upon ingestion of the trigger food component. It becomes a lot more complicated when given or fed on a regular basis because those symptoms may mimic the effect of allergic reactions and could have longer effects. What is your favorite funny dog video on YouTube? Should we add any classics to the list? Let us know in the comments below! Dog and cat videos are often popular on social media, and while many of the videos show pets in harmless and funny situations, there is a growing trend for animals to be subjected to unusual and even uncomfortable experiences. Currently, there are also many videos circulating where people deliberately try to scare their dogs or cats. In these cases, the animals become frightened, and unnecessary stress is provoked. For example, if the pet stiffens, chatters their teeth, or begins to bark or hiss loudly, it is a clear sign that the animal is scared and uncomfortable. The videos often circulate on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, so one should think twice when encountering dog and cat videos. When you like or share videos where dogs or cats are placed in unnatural and uncomfortable situations, you contribute to the spread of such content. The best thing you can do is simply to refrain from liking or sharing these videos, says Pernille Hansen, who nevertheless emphasizes that it is certainly not all videos that one should avoid. She finishes by saying: There are fortunately many funny and cute videos of dogs and cats that are well and happy in natural situations, such as playing in the garden, eating food, or sleeping. When buying a puppy it is a good ideal to visit the kennel. You should be able to interact with their dogs, especially the mom and dad of the puppy you are considering. This is the only way to check the temperament of their breeding dogs. By visiting the kennel you can inspect the cleanliness of the facility, and how the puppies are being taken care of. You can interact with the puppies and also, check the temperament of the puppies themselves and over all health. By visiting the kennel you will also be able to see the over all looks and structure of the breeding dogs. By doing these things this would help improve the German Shepherd Breed itself. It would make it difficult to breed and sell inferior puppies, which would help keep the breed from deteriorating. A loving forever home with a secure fence and another dog in the home She wants to be your "All-American Girl! Carrie Underwood is so sweet and adorable. She is a bundle of tender kisses and has energy for days. She has been a great sister to the newest foster puppies that have come and gone, teaching them the art of playing with toys. Carrie's favorite thing to do is play chase with her K9 buddies. She runs fast and does figure 8's around the resident dogs, who don't even try to keep up with her. Her second favorite activity is napping with the resident Labs. She adores the older resident dogs and has learned great napping skills from them. She continues to work on her leash skills. Carrie has been quietly working on coming out of her shell and has undergone a transformation since arriving at her foster. She loves to curl up in the lap of her FM for naps and bedtime snuggles. She still has her moments of shyness around Foster Dad, but will now come voluntarily to the couch to sit beside him for attention. She's definitely gained lots of confidence. Carrie will need a home with another dog, preferably one who enjoys the same activity level. Carrie still has some shy moments but she is ready for her furever home, and she will steal the heart of anyone who wants to add a sweet yet energetic member to their family. Thank you to the following generous donors currently supporting Carrie's care: Amanda S. Daisy and Brock are a beautiful mother and son pair who love to snuggle together and cuddle. They are both sweet, happy, and friendly. They adore getting attention from anyone they meet during their walks and easily draw people in with their sunny personalities and soft silky coats. They have settled into an easy routine in their foster home and relish their walks every day and visits to the dog park. During their walks Brock clocks roughly twice the mileage of foster mom and Daisy with his side-to-side walking style. Neither is true! These pups love to live it up at the dog park where they show off their speed as Brock sprints and dives after his Kong frisbee, often grabbing it taco style, while Daisy relishes fetching an orange Chuck-It ball before eventually resting to chew on it. Brock is also a master at tug-of-war who has learned to drop it sometimes after repeated requests so it can be thrown again. Brock is extra special because he was born without a tail, which causes him to be incontinent. Inside the house he wears diapers and a belly band, and his incontinence is easily managed. When coming inside from a walk, Brock waits patiently for his diaper to be put on. Daisy and Brock took time to smell the roses and ponder life. While happy to be in a foster home, they would love to find their forever home. Please open your mind and your heart to considering adopting these two gorgeous pups. You will never regret your decision. Vocality level 4 in 5 Disclaimer: While the characteristics mentioned here may frequently represent this breed, dogs are individuals whose personalities and appearances will vary. Please consult the adoption organization for details on a specific pet. Temperament Few breeds so richly deserve their popularity as does the Labrador Retriever. When trained, the breed is obedient and amiable and tolerates the antics of children, other dogs, and other pets. The Lab is a calm house dog, playful yard dog, and intense field dog, all on the same day. Labs are eager to please, enjoys learning, and excel in obedience. It is a powerful breed that loves to swim and retrieve. Labradors need daily physical and mental challenges to keep occupied. A bored Lab can get into trouble! Upkeep Labradors are active and sociable dogs. They need daily exercise, preferably in the form of retrieving and swimming. Owners with swimming pools either must fence them out or be prepared to share the pool with dogs. The Lab coat sheds water easily. Weekly brushing is needed to remove dead hair. Health Major concerns: CHD, elbow dysplasia, OCD, obesity, patellar luxation Minor concerns: cataract, CPRA, hot spots, retinal dysplasia, hypothyroidism Occasionally seen: diabetes, entropion, distichiasis, tricuspid valve dysplasia, centronuclear myopathy, exercise-induced collapse Suggested tests: hip, elbow, eye, exercise-induced collapse DNA , centronuclear myopathy , knee Life span: 10—12 years History The original Labradors were all-purpose water dogs originating in Newfoundland, not Labrador. Not only did the breed not originate in Labrador, but it also was not originally called the Labrador Retriever. These dogs—medium-sized black dogs with close hair—not only retrieved game but also retrieved fish, pulled small fishing boats through icy water and helped the fisherman in any task involving swimming. Eventually, the breed died out in Newfoundland in large part because of a heavy dog tax. However, a core of Labradors had been taken to England in the early s, and it is from these dogs, along with crosses to other retrievers, that the breed continued. It was also in England that the breed earned its reputation as an extraordinary retriever of upland game. Initially, black labs were favored over yellow or chocolate colors. By the early s, the other colors had become more accepted. The popularity of this breed has grown steadily until the Labrador Retriever became the most popular breed in America in and remains so today. Related Content.

Scissors Hot glue gun Paint your wood box and let dry. Give it another coat. Once that is dry, coat your valentine box with Mod Podge and let dry. This is optional, but I think a perfect Mod Podge formula for this is the Sparkle. It will be the perfect bling for the holiday! Cut the pug head out of the foam based on the colors in the pattern. Place the foam pieces on a piece of thicker paper, foam, or even a cereal box. Glue or hot glue the pieces down. Add the wiggly eyes with hot glue as well — plus the nose and tongue. Once your pug face is complete, cut out the head and glue it to the front of the box, right below the clasp leaving the top unglued. The clasp should be able to operate behind the head. Cut out one large hot for the top of the box — and several smaller hearts of various sizes to add to the rest of the box. Then glue the rest of the hearts on the box — and add little accents to the hearts with the Sharpie. Let dry before using. Kids can place the box on their desk and let the Valentines fill it up! I love that you can use it year after year, and this cute little box is great for gifts or candy, too. Posts may contain affiliate links see Disclosure. Thank you so much for supporting Artsy-Fartsy Mama! For the third year in a row, we lucked out on creating an original and fun Valentine card box to hold all those sweet notes from classmates! Unlike other years, this year we procrastinated making a Valentine card box and pulled off a night-before-Valentine's Day miracle. My daughter couldn't decide what she wanted, and we accidentally threw out all of our boxes a few nights before. Then, the heavens opened up and we had, once again - a corn dog box to work with! As you've seen from our other Valentine boxes, the corn dog box is apparently our destined go-to for Valentine's Day. Ours measured about 4 inches wide and 2. Use the utility knife and carefully cut out the mouth shape. Wrap the box like you would a regular present, but keep the seams on the back and the sides so they won't show on the front. Use clear tape, and try to keep all the edges as smooth as you can. Feel for the hole of the mouth, then carefully cut an "X" from the corners of the mouth. Fold the paper inside and tape it down on the inside of the box. In case you didn't know, you can upload your own. If you are also using a corn dog box, the image size shouldn't need to be adjusted at all. Don't have a cutter? No problem! You can totally cut out the puppy face by hand or even paint it on!! Cut the design out of black, pink and red cardstock and attach to the box with a glue stick, or my a quick-drying glue like Aleene's Tacky Glue. For a more realistic-looking tongue, glue the circled edge down and fold the other end into the mouth and tape it down on the inside. If you are like us, you'll know that everything can always use a bit more sparkle! We didn't have enough time since we procrastinated , but you can definitely spray your Valentine box with some glitter spray or Glitter Mod Podge and let it dry completely. Sorry we are posting a little too late for this year - but feel free to save this tutorial for next year!! I'd love to see pictures of your kid's Valentine box ideas, too! Feel free to post your pictures on my Facebook page!

Poodle puppy still has baby teeth Dr. All of her adult teeth are in. My friend told me that I should get them removed. Is this really necessary? Answer: Baby teeth are the small teeth that come in when the puppy is a few weeks old. Puppies have 28 baby teeth. Your puppy will get 42 adult teeth in a two-month period and have all the permanent teeth by 6 months of age. The root of the baby tooth absorbs again and this allows the tooth to loosen and come out. When the root fails to absorbs again the baby tooth is retained and the adult tooth may have a hard time erupting. It may cause the adult tooth to come in crooked or misaligned;this can cause crowding in the mouth. Food particles can wedge between the teeth and plaque and tartar develop. Retained baby teeth may cause problems such as periodontal disease, crooked teeth and malocclusion. The close proximity to the adult teeth can cause the tooth socket to develop abnormally and erode the gum tissue. It is very important to have the baby teeth extracted by your veterinarian in order to prevent these problems. The extraction must be done under anesthesia. Dental X-rays are done before and after extraction. Many veterinarians will do the extractions at the same time as the spay or neuter surgery. Good dental care is one of the most important things you can do to keep your dog healthy! Adult Poodles will chew to help cope with Separation Anxiety and ease boredom. Don't worry; No matter how old your Poodle is , or whether your have a Toy, Miniature or Standard, help is here! Puppies that Chew One of the reasons that Poodle puppy will chew, even before teething has begun, is to explore the world. A puppy will use their mouth as opposed to a hand to figure out…. While this is most vital during the first year, since a dog of any age may mouth an object it is recommended to periodically performed checks of all accessible areas and remove anything that could be a potential chocking hazard. In this way, you can be 1 step ahead, but not even allowing the temptation to chew on these things to manifest. Teething Poodles will experience teething from about 4 months until 8 months. Do keep in mind that some Poodles are late bloomers and teething may last a bit longer. How the Right Toys can Help A puppy must be allowed to chew as much as he wishes, when he is teething. This is a very difficult time for a Poodle puppy, as the urge to relive discomfort is quite overwhelming. It will be your job to supply some of the best possible toys. Take care when you are choosing toys for your pup's collection. Some toys are cheaply put together, the manufacturers splash on some color , give it a cute name and people scoop them up. However, those are the toys that most dogs do not find interesting and you inevitably waste your money and your dog is not being helped. Toys should have 1 or more of the qualities: Is Interactive — Moves or makes noise when chewed. Motivates a puppy - When a puppy receives a reward such as treat release chew toys , he will be more apt to go to it in the future for chewing urges. Has several different types of surfaces — for example rubber knobs on one end to put between teeth when the gums are sore and rope for a different feel that can be manipulated into just the right spot. Is sized correctly so that it is not a struggle to mouth it, but is big enough that's it's safe to chew. Tips to Encourage Approved Chewing Once you have cleared the house of low level items the best that you can and you have a good selection of quality toys, your Poodle may still need a bit of encouragement to chew on them. Here are some tips: 1 Puppies love new objects. Therefore, one trick that works well is to have 2 groups of toys…always keeping 1 available and 1 hidden. Do keep in mind that any toy that your pup has seemed to become very fond of, should not be put away and should always be available. Chew toys should always bring a positive association. However, for chewing issues, this should be followed by a trade. What does this mean? When he accepts the toy, give great praise to teach your pup that chewing on the toy is what makes you proud of him. Sometimes, a puppy can be stubborn, and this is where you must not be shy. Many times this may startle a puppy — this is acceptable. This means that you have captured his attention and can now offer the trade and give him the chew toy. Separation Anxiety Chewing If your Poodle destroys things or chews on objects while you are away, they are most likely expressing their nervousness and anxiety while waiting for you to return. Like human babies, puppies will find that actively chewing can help relieve some of this discomfort. Because puppies enjoy mouthing objects, providing them with a wide variety of chew toys will provide ample relief and help to stimulate their mind as they grow. Select dog toys that are small enough for your Poodle to get in its mouth and include items with knobs, bumps, canvas, rope, and wood for various textures. The best chew toys for puppies will make noises when compressed, such as squeaking or crinkling sounds, to encourage them to continue chewing on this object rather than your shoes. Some manufacturers also produce scented or flavored chew toys to help entice your new pup to focus on appropriate items for chewing instead of household objects. A toy Poodle pulls off an amazing jump for a ball Remove Off-Limit Items Poodle puppies are juvenile dogs with no self-control, especially when exploring the world around them. New pet owners should adopt the concept that they should place anything they do not want to be chewed out of reach. You want to resist any temptation for your new Poodle to chew on your TV remote or your favorite pair of shoes. Taking away off-limit items will keep your puppy focused on what they can chew on. Use a Chew-Deterrent Spray Unfortunately, pet owners cannot hide everything from a new puppy in their home. Sometimes utilizing a chew-deterrent spray from a local pet store can ensure your Poodle does not mouth your furniture or door frame. Many of these commercial products will taste like bitter apples, and once your pup gets a taste, they will avoid the area. At what age do Poodles calm down? Occasionally, some puppies will develop a chewing habit and carry it to adulthood. With proper supervision and adequate toys, it should not pose a problem. However, when a Poodle begins to chew up your personal items and is well past the 8-month growth stage, their chewing is probably not from teething. Poodles are highly social animals and love to be with their owners. However, if they are left alone for more extended periods, they can develop separation anxiety. One trait that some dogs exhibit when they have anxiety is excessive chewing. If you suspect that your Poodle is chewing due to anxiety rather than teething problems, you can consult your local veterinarian or dog behavioral specialist. These professionals can guide you on some alternative steps to take if you must leave your pet at home alone so they do not become destructive. Sometimes an adult dog will lose teeth. Im blessed with an amazing supportive husband and we have two beautiful boys and my husband has a daughter so I get a bonus baby, yay. Getting our Dahlia was not easy. It took me a good two years to find Dahlia. We searched high and low and couldn't find the perfect little red toy poodle. Our Why Im going to tell you a horror story now, stay with me. So in our search we came across a ton of scammers ready to take our money. Which Im sure many of you reading this right now are thinking oh yea been there. I know. It was at about the 1 year and half mark that I started to get discouraged in finding a red toy poodle. My husband would try to help me by digging online and on the AKC marketplace only to come across scammers and liars everywhere. My husband took to a local classified's add here in Vegas and found a cute red toy poodle. He made a few calls and we had a date to meet the pup and buy her. Continuation of why I was so excited to finally be meeting my future baby girl. We met in a parking lot at night because thats the time they told us to meet them. We had the money in hand and made the transaction. We took our new baby girl home and we were so happy. We thought everything was great. I mean it was dark and we couldn't only see so much, she looked cute and we bought her. We noticed she was'nt being playful like a puppy should be. We fed her and gave her water, the next day she was vomiting and had diarrhea. We knew immediatly she probably had Parvo. We got sold a sick puppy, we managed to save her. But the horror does'nt stop there. We started to notice her hair was growing in black in the roots, and her tips were turning a bronzy fried color. Yes my friends this puppy was dyed with red dye to sell her for more money. I could'nt believe that someone would do this to a poor puppy. So obviously she wasn't a red poodle or even a poodle for that matter. My search continued. My heart sank even more. I read the classified and turns out this person was warning potential buyers and this seller was selling sick pups all over the valley and people were out of their hard earned money and no puppy because the puppies died. Choosing a Poodle Being a conscientious breeder means breeding to continually improve quality of the dogs, not for financial gain. The study of genetics is very important in selecting breeding dogs. Knowing the backgrounds of the bloodlines in your dog's pedigree is essential in order to do as much as possible to prevent genetic disorders, such as such as hip dysplasia. Keep this in mind when acquiring a puppy, for only a healthy companion, full of vitality, can give you many years of shared happiness. A puppy mill is where dogs are bred only for financial gain, without concern for their health and the conditions in which they are raised. The genetic health and temperament do not matter, as long as the pups can be sold for cash. If you buy from a pet store, you are only getting a puppy, secondhand, from a puppy mill. In most cases, a broker for an out-of-state puppy mill sends the pups to the pet store. These brokers acquire the pups long before they should be taken from their mothers. Normally, no shots are given and these animals are prime candidates for serious canine diseases, such as parvo and distemper. Well-intentioned people may sometimes buy from puppy mills or pet stores because they feel so sorry for the puppy. Please don't. All this purchase does is allow these terrible practices and unhealthy environments to continue, and it contributes to the profit these unscrupulous people make from mistreating dogs. Backyard Breeders You may pay a cheaper price for a pup from a backyard breeder, but you will not have solid information about the health and temperament. In most cases, these people do not know anything about the genetics of their breeding pair or how to produce a healthy puppy. The cheaper price is not worth the gamble you are being asked to take. Responsible breeders will provide each buyer with a written genetic health guarantee - not a 3 to 90 day guarantee. They will want to know about you and your family in order to match you with the pup that is best suited to your lifestyle and your home environment. These breeders are educated professionals who are concerned about keeping the breed as healthy as possible for the next generations. With a deep love of the breed, in general, and their dogs, in particular, they will offer references, including giving you their vet's name and phone number. In addition, they will be there for you should any unforeseen problems arise, or to answer questions, share new knowledge and provide advice for years to come. You get what you pay for. When the purchase price is too cheap, it may mean large vet bills and an ill puppy, or a temperament problem, down the road ahead. If you cannot afford to purchase a puppy or an older dog from a reputable breeder, please adopt from your local Humane Society, rather than from a puppy mill, pet store or backyard breeder. Our high ethical standards require all puppies being placed into pet homes will be spayed or neutered.
