The singleton pup was confirmed by radiography. The complete blood count showed within the normal physiological range. One dead fetus was removed through caesarean section. The aim of this case paper is that pet owner should be visited for normal routine check-up their pet during pregnancy to identify any obvious condition. Introduction In general term dystocia means difficult in whelping in bitch, and it may be due to inability to expel fetuses through the birth canal even after full term of pregnancy in bitch[1]. The etiology of dystocia may be maternal or fetal. In bitch dystocia mostly due to uterine inertia that may be partial or complete[2]. The labour ends prematurely in partial uterine inertia while in complete uterine inertia labour period is unable to start. Singleton litters in giant breeds including German Shepherds are rare. This problem is mainly related to the extended duration of the pregnancy and dystocia. Also, it is not easy to predict the time of parturition[3]. A pregnancy is a always need extra care, particularly in a singleton litter, it is considered to be a high-risk pregnancy. A high risk pregnancy may be due to many factors. It may be due to infectious factors, use of advanced age for breeding, history of earlier miss pregnancy, brachycephalic dogs and singleton litters[4,5,6,7]. Case Description A three year old, 30 kg, primiparous German shepherd bitch was presented with history of prolonged gestation without labour signs. The bitch was mated before 79 days with a three year old male subsequently after 8th day of heat. On presentation bitch was alert and active. Rectal temperature was .Respiration and heart rates were well within normal physiological limits. Pervaginal examination revealed absence of tonicity in the uterine wall. On 77th days of pregnancy dexamethasone and epidosine was used by local veterinarian. On the next day minute foul smelling greenish discharge started from vagina. Further clinical signs related to parturition were no observed. A ventrodorsal and lateral abdominal radiography was performed to confirm the number and position of fetus. In single litter the main cause of the dystocia may be overstretching of the myometrium by large size and excessive fetal fluids. The secondary causes of primary uterine inertia may be an inherited predisposition, nutritional imbalance, fatty infiltration of the myometrium, age related changes, deficiency of neuro-endocrine regulation, or systemic diseases in the bitch[8]. In this case radiographic picture shown that a single pup covers the full length of one horn of the uterus. A single litter dystocia due to fails to produce sufficient ACTH and cortisol to initiate the whelping process in bitch. In this case also assumption that not proper production of hormone which play an important role for uterine contraction to start whelping so pregnancy was extended till the caesarean performed. Pup become macerated or mummified due to dies in utero. When infection enters the uterus via the dilated cervix the puppy becomes infected, emphysematous, macerated and only hysterectomy to resolving the case. A greenish vaginal discharge was observed by the pet owner after treatment of local veterinarian; drugs which help to dilation of cervix but due to oversized and emphysematous not able to expelled the pup[9]. A single radiographic exposure is required to diagnose the gravid canine abdomen to detect unlikely harmful to the unborn litter at full term. Radiographically may be detecting number and position of the young ones like fetal maldisposition— such as transverse presentation at the pelvic inlet. Other signs of fetal death, including overlapping of the cranial bones with gas shadows in the fetal heart and stomach and in advanced cases fetal emphysema. In dead fetus the spine is more tightly flexed than the living fetus[9]. Flaccidity of the anterior vaginal wall and failure to stimulate the reflex may indicate presence of uterine inertia. Induction and maintenance with isofurane gave satisfactory result and it was also ideal for such case in which the pup was died. The size of puppy was abnormally large seen in radiography hence site for caesarean section was also important. In this case uterine inertia was related to lack of sufficient quantity of hormonal for initiation of labour pain due to single pup pregnancy and hence caesarean section was performed to relive the condition and save the animal life. This generally results in extension of pregnancy period. This is the only viable clinical sign in this condition. It is also necessary to check the status of pregnancy as in this syndrome dystocia and mummification is quite common. Dystocia means difficulty seen at the birth of fetus. This is a very harmful condition for the mother. Dystocia involves difficulty in birth which may arise either due to incomplete dilation of the birth canal or due to oversized fetus. In single puppy syndrome there are chances that both the conditions may exist and hence increasing the complications of the case. It is therefore advisable for the pet parents or breeders to contact a veterinarian to cure the case effectively saving mother and the pup. Apart from treatment there are several managemental practices which can be followed to cure the condition or even save the pets life. This involves breeding dogs at the right time in their heat period. The optimum time of breeding can be determined by a technique called exfoliative vaginal cytology, female dogs which are more than 7 years old should not be mated or when they are mated, they should be checked for their hormonal levels throughout the pregnancy. Also, the management of pregnant females should be done with all sophistication and sanitation to avoid infectious diseases. Moreover, for further diagnosis and treatment a veterinarian should be consulted and suggested therapy should be followed strictly. Therefore, an early detection of single puppy syndrome and its cause is advisable. This condition not only reduces the number of puppies but can also be proven fatal for the dam. Also there are no specific symptoms recorded in the pregnant mother so early pregnancy diagnosis should be done by ultrasonography in suspected dogs especially which has such history in the previous gestation. Once diagnosed with the condition proper supervision and intervention at the time of whelping should be ascertained to save the life of the pup and the mother.

A Great Dane and other large breeds will have reached about half their final weight and little dogs will have almost completed their growth. Some female dogs will come on heat for the first time during this month, or the next, so keep an eye open now for swelling of her vulva and any discharge. Your dog will become increasingly confident over the next few months so practice, practice and practice that recall! Make it a habit he cannot break. And be generous with your rewards. Small breed pups may now be more or less mature. We tried to take as many pictures as possible so we could have a journal of our Golden Retriever puppy growth week by week. When raising guide and service dog puppies we usually bring home our puppies at around weeks old. On occasion we are allowed to see puppies before 8 weeks of age, but they need to stay with their mother and siblings during those important early weeks to get milk and antibodies from mama and learn how to interact properly with siblings, learning important behaviors like bite inhibition. During our days as a foster we raised two litters of puppies , but both were already weeks old by the time we got them home. We actually own the Puppy Culture DVD and Workbook which includes charts, lists, worksheets and other great information for raising your litter. Keep your eyes and ears open and absorb it all like a sponge! Birth To 1 Week Old Guess what? This was the first litter we ever whelped!? We got a lot of advise, but we were largely on our own. Large Puppy Dish — great for feeding the puppies when they moved to solid food. Whelping Mats — we ordered 2 of these mats and washed them several times a day. Whelping Box — We have a homemade whelping box built by my father-in-law, but if we continue raising litters I plan on purchasing an EZWhelp Whelping Box. Our homemade box lasted three litters. We ended up purchasing the Magnabox which was hellu expensive but if you plan on raising multiple litters we highly recommend it. We recently put together a whelping checklist with all the supplies we gathered together to help out with our second litter of Golden Retriever puppies. It was my understanding that when the cord was chewed down to the base of the belly it was sometimes difficult to get it to stop bleeding. I took the hemostat and pinched the umbilical cord about 2 inches from the base of the pups belly then cut the cord rather than let Raven chew it off. I kept the hemostat on the cord for about 2 minutes to let it clout. The umbilical cord dries up quickly and then within a day or 2 it falls off. Raven was a good mama and took care of her poops. Puppy eyes and ears are closed at this stage and puppies army crawl around the whelping box looking for a teat to suckle. We did everything we could to make sure our pups stayed warm by adding a watt heat lamp to the whelping box and portable heating unit in the puppy room. As I mentioned Raven stayed in the whelping box most of week 1 and of course… the puppy piles! One thing I learned is if I had a puppy on my lap then do not let Raven lick those areas or be prepared for a little accident on your lap. While caring for Raven and her litter Raven was really blowing out her coat that first week, but as time went on it slowed down. I heard from other friends this is common and that Raven blew out her coat much less than other mama dogs. We got Probiotics for Raven before her first litter, but forgot to order them for her second litter. After an upset stomach for the first week or so we realized our mistake, got Probiotics, and no more upset tummy. Week 2 — Pups eyes are opening starting to waddle. Week 3 — First bark! Because of this limitation, white Boxer dogs do not meet the breed standard for show conformation. Many breeders and handlers hope that this changes. White Boxers, as beautiful as they are, may someday be accepted for conformation in AKC show events. There are breeders and people in the general public who feel that white Boxer dogs are inferior to fawn or brindled colored Boxers and have more health problems. .Recently, there has been more studies to either substantiate or dissuade the claims that white Boxers are more prone to problems than standard colors. The only claims that seem to have merit are: They are more likely to sunburn And the white Boxer like many other breeds with similar loss of pigment are more prone to deafness in one or both ears. They are not rare -Approximately 25 percent of all boxers born are white. They are not albinos — They have colored eyes, colored touch, inside of the ears, belly and bottom of the paws. They can sunburn easy — an owner should use human sunscreen on their dog if they are to be outside for more than 30 minutes — And remember that the UV sun rays CAN penetrate through clouds, so it is better to be safe than sorry. They can be deaf and this is one of the biggest reasons why most breeders do not purposefully breed for the white color. Blindness is a bit more common with the white Boxer. Some people believe that white Boxers develop cancer more easily than the more standard colored dogs ; however this is still up for debate and has not been proven. The AKC will deny registration for any puppies born to a registered white Boxer. They have the same temperament and personality as other Boxers. .They are happy, loyal, social, friendly dogs when raised in a loving, appropriate home. The white Boxer may have pigmented patches around the eyes and ears and other limited points on the body, but the Check has much more pigment and could be called piebald .A flashy Boxer is one who carries one dose of the gene. Most Shih-Poos end up with a curly or wavy, low or non-shedding coat. However, you should be prepared for your Shih-Poo to exhibit either coat type of the parent breeds. This coat looks its best with a combination of brushing a few times a week at home and then professional grooming every four to six weeks.
