Well-bred puppies are available in each of these colors, and we have trained excellent hunting dogs in each color. However, you may now see litters advertised as fox red or white. These colors are not recognized by the AKC and you should beware of purchasing a dog based solely on color. In addition, there are now Labs being sold as silver, charcoal and champaign. These litters are technically not pure Labrador Retrievers. They are often referred to as dilutes because the genetics have been diluted to produce these colors. Many trainers will not train dilutes because of the many health problems and genetic issues that go along with these breeds. There are, unfortunately, people breeding pups specifically to produce a specific color without regard for temperament and the betterment of the breed. We prefer to stay away from litters that do not have a proven pedigree and have been breed specifically for color. In addition, our experience training dogs from these types of litters has proven to be a struggle. How much does a good puppy cost? For many people this is a defining question. So, a new hunting partner can be a significant investment. But for us it is worth it to stack the odds in our favor. Find a great retriever breeder Unfortunately, not all breeders are equal. Over the years, some breeders have stood out to us as exceptional. They go over and beyond just taking good care of the puppies. You can tell they really want their puppies to turn out great and they take steps, while the pups are very young, to help ensure their puppies have a good strong foundation that will help them succeed in the future. Beyond the breeding of quality dogs, the difference is in the socialization of the puppies. As I talk extensively about in Raising a Lab puppy to be a duck or gun dog , socialization is an essential key component in training a retriever puppy. Breeders that go out of their way to socialize young pups are worth their weight in gold. The truth is that raising puppies, done the right way, takes a lot of time and commitment. We specialize in training and prefer to let others specialize in doing a great job raising litters. Ask prospective breeder the right questions When you call and talk to a breeder about an upcoming litter, it is important to get answers to some important questions. If the pedigrees are not available online, be sure and request one from the breeder. How often do you breed? How often has this mother been bred? When looking for a great hunting dog puppy, you want to avoid puppy mills. Puppy mills are breeders that are just pumping out puppies for money and without concern to the overall health and betterment of the breed. Responsible breeders have a plan for the litters they are producing and will be able to talk to you about why the litter is worth the money they are asking. What breeds do you breed? Look for a breeder that specializes in Labrador Retrievers or whatever breed you are looking to purchase. What does your health guarantee cover? Responsible breeders will offer you a health guarantee for the puppy. While what this guarantee covers may vary, with Labrador Retrievers some of the things you want to make sure the health guarantee covers includes: Hip dysplasia Eye issues In addition, you may want to make sure that the parents have been genetically tested for other genetic diseases such as Exercise Induced Collapse EIC and Centronuclear Myopathy CNM. What do you do to socialize the puppies? Asking this open-ended question can give breeders a chance to tell you about the work they do socializing the young pups before they are ready to go home. Or, you may want to follow up with more specific questions such as: Are the pups exposed to children at all? Do you take the pups to different locations during the day? Do the puppies get outside time, what does that look like? The goal is to find out if the puppies are getting socialization and exposure to new and different things on a regular basis. Pups that get this exposure tend to adjust more quickly to their new homes and new situations later in life. Have you done this specific breeding before? How did those puppies turn out? Breeders that are working for the betterment of the breed, may breed a set of parents more than once. If this is a repeat breeding, it is likely that the breeder will know how previous litters performed in the field or in competition. Serious Labrador Retriever breeders often keep track of how their puppies perform as they age. Alternatively, you could ask for references and talk to previous buyers to find out what they think of the breeder and the puppy they bought. Should I meet the prospective dog parents? While some people might tell you that you should meet the prospective parents of the puppies, I do not see a lot of value in this. Some good breeders do not own both the parents. Often, they work with other breeders so both the Dam and Sire may not be onsite. And if you are basing your pup purchase off pedigree first, as I would recommend, you already know the most important things about the parents. If looks are important to you, then photos of the parents will show you what you need to know. Choose a retriever puppy from the litter Once you decide on a litter, the waiting begins. Ask the breeder to provide videos and photos of puppies as the grow. This is a great way to see the puppies progress and you can see some personality traits in the different pups. If you did all the work in researching pedigree and breeders, you already have stacked the odds in your favor. You know that the litter is a good one and that the puppies have a good chance of turning out to be great hunting partners. This is important because it takes a lot of pressure off when it is time to pick the puppy from the litter. When you do go to the breeder to pick your puppy, take a few minutes to observe the puppies. This will allow you to see some personality traits. Understand though that this is only one snapshot in time. The puppy that is active at this time, might have been sleeping right before you showed up. Or, the one that is sleepy may have been running around like crazy just minutes before. At Otter Tail Kennels, we often look for a puppy that likes people. A puppy that chases a child around the yard or runs to the owner when they walk away is attractive to us because we want a people-centered dog instead of a dog that prefers to spend its time with litter mates. Before sit, stay, and come are learned, your Boxer puppy will naturally be able to pick up on routines in their new environment. This is to your advantage to make house training you Boxer that much easier. When your puppy understands when they will be going outside for potty training they can adapt to this quickly. This will make potty training much more difficult. Keep a regular potty break schedule with your Boxer puppy, and you will be on your way. I have more detailed tips on this routine coming up in the next sections. Consistency and routine all roll up into what I like to call the proactive potty training approach. By keeping one step ahead of your puppy and getting them outside to potty, before they begin to circle the living room, you will save yourself a lot of clean ups. Boxers , and most dogs for that matter, are easy to house train when you keep these 3 ideas in mind. To reliably potty train a Boxer it will take as long as 6 months. Some dogs can be potty trained a little earlier, some a little more time is required. When your Boxer puppy is able to go without any accidents consistently for weeks, you are pretty much done potty training. That being said, you are ultimately responsible for how long it takes to potty train your Boxer. Following the ideas of consistency, routine, and being proactive will make potty training your Boxer puppy that much easier, and that much faster. How do you stay consistent? What kind of routine works best for potty training your Boxer? How are you going to be proactive in making potty training your Boxer easy? Patience and practice will be needed throughout this process. You can set yourself up for success perfectly, but accidents will still happen. Clean up the mess, and try again next time. Yelling, screaming, hitting, or rubbing their nose in it is very ineffective. It would be the same as doing this to a baby that poops in their diaper. Not only is it not effective, it can create behavioral issues such as fear and anxiety in your dog. Just clean up the mess and move on. Remember that if you puppy has an accident in the house this is your fault, and not your Boxer puppy. Next time try to be more consistent and proactive in your approach to potty training. There will be plenty of opportunities for redemption. Your Boxer needs to know that what they did at that exact moment makes you very happy, and they get a treat or affection in return. Be patient this could take a few minutes. Once your Boxer puppy has done their business immediately reward them and shower them in praise. The goal here is to set your excitement at the beginning as neutral. Then get super excited and pleased the moment they finish going potty. Consistent positive reinforcement like this will quickly connect with your puppy and make potty training a fun experience for them. You are going to need to show them the ropes and control your environment to make house training easy. Having a designated spot in your yard is a good start, but controlling the environment in the home is important. Tip 4 Pick Your Potty Spots If you have a backyard, or have access to a grass area outside your home somewhere, use this as your training area. Bring your Boxer puppy to this same area each time you bring them outside so they can make the connection that this is where they relieve themselves. When you are in the home with your puppy it is important to control the environment. You may live in a large or small home, and each area of your place is a potential potty spot, until your puppy learns otherwise. Slowly allow access to these different areas of the home once they learn the previous room was a no potty area. Getting yourself a puppy play pen to give them room to play and be comfortable is a great way to control your environment and not have them sneak off to another room to do their business. It is always ideal to have your Boxer puppy go potty outside on grass when house training. This can be tricky at times for those of you that live in say a high rise apartment building. There are better alternatives however. Puppy pads, besides being bad for the environment, are also an unnatural texture for your puppy to learn to go potty on. Simulated grass, or actual grass as your alternative to potty pads in these situations is a much better way to show your puppy where to potty. I lived on the 10th floor of an apartment when I got my Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy. Naturally covers up the smells, earth friendly, and lasts for weeks, unlike one time use puppy pads. This product is such a brilliant idea. This will not only teach your puppy that grass is the spot to potty, but is just so much nicer to have in your home or on your balcony compared to those stinky, ugly, and sometimes messy potty pads. Had I known a few of them before getting my Staffy , I may not have even needed the balcony potty pads. By being proactive in their house training, you can make this learning even easier for them. Getting your Boxer puppy out to potty every couple hours is a good step, but an even better system is to get them out any time they: Wake up in the morning. Wake up from a nap. Finish eating or drinking. Start to sniff around the room. Whine or whimper near the door Come out of their crate. Following these 7 simple routines saved me so many clean ups. These also teach your Boxer that once these activities are completed, that they will have a chance to go outside. Buying you a few extra minutes to get them outside. Having the routine and understanding that you will get them outside after naps, playtime, meal time, etc… will show your Boxer puppy a solid potty training structure. This kind of proactive potty training approach is hands down your best tool. I would highly recommend that your crate train your Boxer. This can not only assist in making your house training easy for your Boxer, but is a great way to give your dog a relaxing and comfortable place to be when you are away from home. This is instinctual behavior for even puppies. By crate training your Boxer puppy this can give you an opportunity to control your environment and prevent accidents in the home. Just be sure to be proactive and bring your Boxer puppy outside as soon as you let them out of the crate. Getting the proper size crate is important in potty training as well. You want your Boxer puppy to have enough space to stand up and turn around, but not so much space that they can take several steps in a row. Too big of a crate will give them a corner to pee in, and too small of a crate is just not good for the dog to move. As your dog goes from puppy to adult they will need more space, and instead of buying new crates over and over you can use the iCrate divider panel. For example a 2 month old Boxer puppy can stay in a crate for 2 hours, and so on. Puppy or Adult. If you can come home from work on your lunch break to let your dog out for a stretch, a potty break and some play for 30 minutes that is great. There are great dog walking services such as Rover that allow you to schedule walks for your dog from professional walkers in your area. Rover will send you updates via the app on when your dog was picked up, dropped off, where they went, whether they did their business, and other fun personalized notes. Rover has a network of professionals in both United States and Canadian cities available. Check them out at Rover. A Boxer puppy should poop anywhere between times a day. Sometimes more depending on their level of activity and the amount of fiber and type of food they are eating. As long as it is a solid healthy stool. If you notice that your puppy is having loose, inconsistent stool or diarrhea throughout the day then something could be wrong. When your dog has had inconsistent runny stool, or there is blood and diarrhea for more than hours, it is time to bring them to the vet for a look over. A professional will be able to better assess what is making your puppy not feel well. Adult Boxer dogs will poop as many times as times a day. This is slightly less than a Boxer puppy. So long as they are having consistent, firm stool you should be just fine. If you notice blood, runny and inconsistent poop for more than hours then consult with your vet. When I first notice my Staffy has inconsistent poops I will feed her some natural pumpkin and 9 times out of 10 that helps firm things up. But always check with your vet if you are concerned. Adult dogs will need to relieve themselves 3 — 5 times a day. This can depend on their activity level and the amount of water they have consumed. Puppies have much smaller bladders and will need to go pee far more often. Between 5 — 8 times a day is fairly common for young puppies. When you find that your dog is being far more frequently, and perhaps having accidents in the home after being potty trained, or just outside, it could be signs of a UTI. Final Thoughts Boxers are easy to house train when you follow these simple 10 tips. The consistency, routine, proactive approach and a little bit of patience will get you and your Boxer puppy to your potty training goals. These first few months may seem like they will never end, but trust me they do. By following 2 main rules: 1. Use a method that prevents your Boxer from eliminating inside the home. Provide and offer an area to relieve themselves that is both easily accessible and available when they need it. Keeping these 2 training rules in mind, housebreaking your Boxer can be done without stress or frustration. Rule 1 The goal is for your Boxer to not eliminate inside the house but how do you accomplish this? It is really easier than you might think. There are 2 basic methods. Watch them like a hawk - If you are lucky enough to be able to stay home with your Boxer until he or she is house trained, you can use the Umbilical Cord Training Method. If you are away during the day, default to this method any time that you are home and it can be reasonably incorporated. You will simply put a leash on your Boxer and tether the other end to you. You may connect it to your belt loop or around your wrist. The important element is that your Boxer will never be more than 6 feet away from you. With this method, you will take your Boxer puppy outside every 2 hours for a 2 month old, every 3 hours for a 3 month old and so on. The less a pup is allowed an opportunity to have an "accident" inside, the more successful the house training will be done. And we must remember that essentially there are no accidents. When nature calls, a puppy will urinate or eliminate where they are at that moment. Bladder and bowel muscles are not at full strength and the Boxer has little control in regard to holding needs. Therefore, it is the owner's job to make sure that their Boxer is outside in the bathroom area, at the time that the body calls for it. The other method is confinement by crating and is not recommended. For times that you cannot be right with your Boxer puppy , it is best to have him in a gated off area. If the room that you choose has carpeting, it is recommended to obtain a piece of linoleum, that will not be installed, it will simply be placed down. It's a good idea to keep the gate open when you are home, allowing your Boxer to check things out and even play, should he choose. It will allow him to get used to the area for times when you are not home. Do keep in mind that without full control over holding his needs, he must still be taken out at the times mentioned above. When you are not home, pee pads or paper can be placed down; however do not expect your puppy to learn 2 methods of housebreaking. The beneficial element is that it will be confined to one space easy to clean up and as the Boxer grows, he will be able to hold his needs for longer periods of time, with the end result being able to hold on for the 8 hours or so that owners are away for work. Rule 2 You must clearly show your Boxer where you expect him to go to the bathroom. If there are any doubts in your dog's mind about where he is supposed to eliminate this will make for one confused dog. And, it will most likely lead to that dog just giving up and going inside the home. Choose a spot that works well in all weather. What looks like a great location on a warm spring day may not work so great when your older, trained Boxer has to hike thorough a foot of snow to reach it in the winter. The area should be roughly 8 feet in diameter and used for nothing else but bathroom needs. If you want to play with your Boxer or do some outdoor command training , do this after he goes to the bathroom and in a separate location at least 15 feet from the bathroom area. The location that you choose as the main spot for your Boxer to use as a bathroom is vital. A dog will become very confused if you show them a new area each time you bring them outside. Just having the yard or "somewhere outside" is not specific enough and will impede progress. The 1 complaint that owners have in regard to housebreaking their puppy is that he or she urinates or eliminates right after coming back into the house. While this may just be a matter of the dog's body not having the need while outside, most of the time it is because an owner did not give the dog an opportunity to do so. Puppies need to sniff around - stand in the center of the chosen area - and with your Boxer on a 6 foot lead, allow him to sniff away any where within that diameter. As they are sniffing, their body is readying to push out a bowel movement and an owner must allow for enough time to go by for this to happen. The mistake occurs when an owner heads back in with their Boxer, only minutes before the dog is ready and that is when the dog eliminates seemingly right after entering back inside. As digested food moved through the intestinal tract, the puppy clenched bowel muscles in anticipation of being taken out. A pup needs 15 to 20 minutes to find just the "perfect" spot and to relax enough to do the deed. How to Begin Using the above Umbilical Cord Training Method Each time your puppy makes a motion that implies that they are about to eliminate, you must bring your dog outside to a designated area. In some cases, you may need to pick up your puppy and run to that spot - expect to do this several times, as even finishing in the designated bathroom area is preferred to not at all. Still give praise even if he only finished up there. Don't scold for what's been done inside, as again, the dog went to the bathroom in the area he was in at the time. Taken outside enough will stop this from happening - and don't worry, as your Boxer matures, he will be able to hold on for about 1 hour extra, for each month that he ages. As soon as your Boxer is done with their business, give tons of praise. A puppy has no idea that he did something right, unless it is conveyed to him via words and at times, additionally a treat. You do not need to give your dog a treat each time they "perform" good; but you should shower your Boxer with pats and tons of happy and excited words. Act as if your dog just did the best possible action in the world! A dog aims to please their owner; if you make your Boxer feel as if he did something extraordinarily wonderful, he or she will be prone to do it again. This does not need to be done forever. Once a dog performs enough repetitions of a certain action, it becomes habit. However, an occasional "good dog! Block off certain rooms that are not in use and use a gate to keep your Boxer on the level of the home where you are. If "allowed" to have accidents, they will continue to believe that they can go urinate or eliminate inside of the home. Even if you yell "NO! Be sure that it is large enough for the pup to: play, sleep, eat and go to the bathroom. Crating does not work when a dog is left home alone. Canines do not care to go to the bathroom in a confined space, but if left with no other choice, they will.Bring your Boxer out about 20 minutes before you leave. Bring him out as soon as you arrive back home. Don't scold for any messes that occurred while you were gone, it makes no sense to reprimand a dog for a natural bodily function. Leaving Your Boxer Outside There are several reasons why a Boxer of any age should not be sent out into the yard without supervision. The Boxer is among the top dog breeds that are stolen. Where are they taken from? Their own yards. A fence may keep other dogs out, but it will not keep out a thief intent on jumping over the fence to take your helpless puppy. Until a Boxer is old enough to scare off a thief, do not leave your puppy outside. In addition, outside elements such as the hot sun can quickly overheat a dog causing heat exhaustion, which ultimately leads to death if treatment is not given in enough time. Your Boxer puppy should be taken out many times during the day, given that he or she sleeps through the night: When they first wake up After each meal times a day Before bedtime A general guideline in house training a dog is that a 2 month old Boxer puppy can hold its needs for 2 hours, a 3 month old for 3 hours and so on. The maximum time that any dog should ever be expected to hold their needs is 8 hours and this is for a full grown adult canine. Taking steps to help your Boxer sleep through the night can also help to some extent. Keeping in mind that meals must be spaced apart from exercise to help prevent bloat , a good bout of cardio about 2 hours before bed may help a pup sleep better through the night.

This coat is preferred by many. It should be wavy and forming light loose spirals. The Fleece coat has a distinctly soft, loopy spirals it feels like no other dog coat. This is a thicker tight curl coat. A Wool Fleece blend is a distinctly nice unusual coat as well. Has a cute fluffy longer coat look. Regular brushing is recommended. Minimal to non-shedding. The Multi-gene Australian Labradoodle always has the ultimate coat. Due to many years of breeding and the uniqueness of the Australian doodle produces a usually textured coat. It should be silky-soft waves and or light loopy spirals very nice Fleece coat and Fleece wool blend. As your Labradoodle puppy develops their adult coat and out of their puppy coat at about 6 to 12 months. Doodle coat will start to thicken and mat, this is the time to start grooming. When the pup coat is changing to their adult coat Puppy may lose a little hair and the coat may become lighten or darken. A change in curl or wavy will happen as the coat matures. Do NOT shave puppy coat off! In addition, we have our GorgeousDoodle preferences and tips as well : When your Doodle is about 14 months old they will have their adult coat and then body and legs can be shaved with clippers if needed. We usually only try to use the shavers on the tummy and sanitary areas but scissors cut everywhere else. It is important is to know your groomer or have a groomer that is recommended. Ask to see photos of other Doodles they have groomed, etc. The best shampoos and conditioners are super important…Doodles have sensitive skin. It is always important to leave their coat longer on the head, face, and tail. It looks good if the tail is full and top of the head is full and ears are trimmed up. I always talk with the groomer and give them firm instructions. No shaving the face or ears or paws or tail. We groom our dogs ourselves. We sometimes leave the legs a little longer with poodles it is called leaving the pants on and or leave their paws and ankles with a bit longer coat. It can be fun to give them a whole new look with a little different cut. Buy wide-tooth combs and open wirer brush and the scissors with a round tip. It is a fun coat, that you can leave long and just carefully trim around faces. Take to a groomer and you can have a full groom cut down to an inch or two or whatever you want. It is a good idea in Summer season hot weather to give them a full short body and legs cut. We would love to see photos of before and after the grooming of your Doodle. Australian Labradoodles have no body odor, they do not require constant bathing and brushing, which is great for all types of owners. Is highly possible that the non- fur fleece and wool textures coat of the Australian Labradoodle is less likely to cause any pet allergic reactions. Labradoodles will have some very low hair breakage loss. Just like humans can have low hair loss. But that is not shedding. A hair-coated Labradoodle is the least popular among people with allergies owing to the fact that it sheds the most out of the three types. This makes them the least hypoallergenic. The muzzle area is usually hair coated and will be a good indicator of their coat type. The fleece coat comes in three varieties — straight, loose curls, and very curly. However, just because this type of coat sheds the least does not mean you can skip the groomers. Whatever type of coat your Labradoodle may have, a visit to the groomers at least once every six weeks along with regular grooming at home is necessary for maintaining its healthy coat. This rich black coat is a fairly common Labradoodle shade. Labradoodles are a hypoallergenic breed of dog. As they grow, they also begin losing the coats that they are born with. This transition usually starts as early as 6 months of age but can even take until they are 12 months of age. Ideally, you should brush your pup slowly and carefully, reaching down to its skin to ensure that the old puppy coat is coming off. This will help the puppy coat to shed faster, remove any tangles from its fur, prevent matting, and help the adult coat grow healthier. The Labradoodle ranks 1 for being a hypoallergenic dog and specifically bred for it. A hypoallergenic dog poses a significantly lower risk of causing an allergic reaction. This is because dogs that are labeled as hypoallergenic shed little to no fur at all. The first Labradoodle was created for a blind Hawaiian lady whose husband had an allergy to dogs. Since then, the popularity of this breed has grown rapidly. Labradoodles shed less fur, resulting in much less dander, as they have coats that are easy to maintain. As previously stated, the process of a puppy coat shedding varies from pup to pup but typically begins when they are 6 months of age. While Labradoodles are a hypoallergenic breed, it does not mean a Labradoodle pup will never lose its puppy coat. Most furry dog breeds shed in the sense that they lose their fur regularly. A Labradoodle puppy does not shed its puppy coat overnight or within a few days. Losing the puppy coat is a gradual process that can take up to a year and a half until the new coat grows. To allow the adult coat to grow properly, the puppy coat needs to be shed entirely. This is also why brushing your Labradoodle puppy is so important. When brushing your pup, you will notice strands of hair falling out at first. Eventually, tufts of puppy hair will come out. The more you brush your dog, the more you will be pulling out the old hair to make way for new growth. If you do notice any signs or symptoms, make sure to visit the vet and take appropriate measures for treatment. How To Manage A Shedding Labradoodle Puppy Coat Once your Labradoodle puppy starts shedding its puppy coat, it is advisable that you brush your dog regularly and at least groom it a couple of times every week or during daily periods of excessive shedding. Different dog breeds shed differently, so if you think something is amiss, you can always consult your vet to get your pup checked out. However, to avoid such dire situations, you need to make sure that you groom and brush your puppy regularly to avoid any matting. Depending on the type of Labradoodle coat your pup will develop, you should ideally be brushing your dog at least once a week to prevent any matting or tangled fur. Comb When you brush the coat, make sure you brush in the opposite direction of the hair growth. This will allow you to remove the old hair better. Then, you can move on to brushing in the direction of hair growth. You can do this with a fine-tooth comb. Ideally, a wooden or stainless steel comb would be a good choice. Make sure you pick a comb with wide teeth on one end and fine on the other. Detangler As your pet grows into a new coat, the old hair can knot up. This is when a detangler is needed. A detangler will help you effectively de-knot the coat without causing any distress to your pet. This tool is designed to help loosen the tangles and mats while being super gentle on your pup. If you keep putting off brushing your pooch, the old puppy coat will not shed but the new coat will start growing in, which will result in matting. A de-matting comb will be your knight in shining armor in such cases. Over-shedding is one example of why your pup may require a full body checkup as complete hair loss is unhealthy. While some people may be genuinely allergic to certain dog breeds, allergic reactions are typically caused by the dander or allergens present in dog fur. Without any exception, all dog breeds produce allergens that are responsible for allergies. These allergens are usually found in the dander, hair, urine, and saliva of a dog. If your dog is cooped up indoors for too long, it is prone to producing more allergens. This is why it is essential to take your dog out regularly. While there is no fool-proof way of deducing the type of coat your Labradoodle will have, there are still ways you can perhaps make an educated guess. For example, an F1B Labradoodle typically has fleece fur. Tracing genetics will give you a clearer picture of the outcome you can expect. Another way is to inspect the fur around the muzzle and the face of your Labradoodle pup. In the case of a fleece-haired coat, however, you will be able to determine the type of hair it will have by the time your pup is almost five weeks old by checking the fur around its eyes. Why is my Labradoodle shedding? Updated: Feb 9, Our labradoodles are allergy-friendly and don't shed for the main reason that their fur coat is very curly and the straighter it is, the more they would shed. But sometimes they will shed a little bit anyways depending on their fur coat. So don't panic! It is normal if they shed a little bit and here is how to stop the shedding if you notice it: Brush your labradoodle's hair every few days with a fur brush or even just a normal dog brush. The brushing will help brush off the loose fur that is on your labradoodle and lessen the shedding. But make sure it is a good brush, as well as a slicker brush. They're usually not expensive and is super useful for shedding hair! Sometimes, the reason why they might shed is because of poor nutrition. To help your labradoodle with this, Omega 3 and MSM supplements. These two supplements are great for dogs who shed and could be perfect for you and your labradoodle. Omega 3 unsaturated helps with developing a healthier coat and skin, which reduces shedding. MSM methylsulfonylmethane is a supplement that provides collagen and keratin to your labradoodle which helps with hair growth and less shedding! Routinely wash your labradoodle once or twice a month to prevent shedding and to reduce shedding by using a dog-shedding shampoo. This will help wash the loose and dead fur from the rest of its fur. Make sure your dog isn't stressed! Like humans, when stressed their fur might begin to shed as well. Of course, there could be many reasons as to why they may be stressed. It could be missing a close person, an adjustment to the environment, insufficient exercise, etc. The best thing you can do to comfort them is create a routine of eating, walking, playing, etc. Treats and scritches are also important! If your labradoodle is shedding excessively, take them to a veterinarian immediately. It could be because of: - allergies. Do Labradoodles Shed, the non shedding dog. Do labradoodles shed? Do not believe that all labradoodles or Australian Labradoodles are non shed dogs, some shed and some do not. This result all depends on the parents, basically the answer depends on genetics. In addition, I need to define shedding, all dogs lose hair. Some have a fur coat and lose fur individually all day, more prior to hot weather. Fur grows to a set length then drops out then grows again to a set length and falls out, this is shedding. Some breeds have long fur and some short, this refers to the length it grows before falling out. Other dogs have a hair like human hair coat, like poodles, and will occasionally scratch or pull out small clumps of hair leaving a dust bunny around the house about once or twice a week. These dogs will need grooming or their coat will grow and grow very long. These dogs are considered non-shedding, more information is on the Labradoodle Coat section of our website. If your family wants a non shed dog, specifically you want at least a third generation or later Labradoodle OR Australian Labradoodle. Either can have a Fleece or Wool Coat. The details: Australian Labradoodle? If both parents of an Australian Labradoodle puppy do not shed your puppy should not. Selective breeding for the coat trait should result in a non shedding coat. It takes at least three generations to consistently produce non shedding results and even then a breeder can occasionally produce a slightly shedding dog due to recessive genetics. Currently we only breed Australian Multigenerational Labradoodles first a first generation Australian is 2 generations past an F1 to 4th generation because we feel this produces the most consistent offspring to our standards. We only breed fleece coat, non shedding and allergy friendly. The parents, grandparents and even great grand parents to your puppy are as non shed and allergy friendly as a dog can be. If you are looking at a third or fourth generation Labradoodle, and both parents and grandparents of a Labradoodle puppy do not shed your puppy should not. It takes at least three generations to consistently produce non shedding results and even then breeder can occasionally find a slightly shedding dog due to recessive genetics. Make sure you are not purchasing a dog that is sometimes called a Second Generation a first generation bred to a first generation.
