Paradise Golden Retrievers Paradise Golden Retrievers recognizes how much love and attention each and every puppy litter needs. The AKC has inspected this facility, and they found that it lives up to every standard and expectation. This breeder prides itself on providing healthy and happy puppies. Golden Retriever puppies sit close together. Paradise Golden Retrievers has successfully bred Golden Retrievers for more than 15 years. As a reputable and top-notch operation, Paradise only raises between two and four litters each year. That is important, as it ensures that every puppy gets outstanding care and attention. Sadly, this breed is particularly prone to cancer. As many as half of all Golden Retrievers will get cancer. The Goldens from Paradise, however, have a much lower rate. The breeder explained that they have only ever heard about one dog from their facility having this disease. That is an outstanding achievement. Contact Details:. Website: Prism Golden Retrievers 9. Their dogs are able to run and play freely, as well as chase birds. This is an ideal setting for the animals, who enjoy a comfortable and active lifestyle. This breeder is a proud member of the Golden Retriever Club of America and the Mid-Florida Golden Retriever Club, meaning they know exactly what it takes to produce healthy and happy golden retrievers. All of the dogs raised by this family are considered to be part of the family. This is because the family thinks of them as best friends, and are truly part of their family. This Golden Retrievers breeder only has litters maybe once a year because they strongly believe in quality over quantity. All of their dogs are extensively vetted for health and beauty standards. They get to see first-hand how the pups are progressing and what areas need more work. The Lucky pup Ranch is family-operated and oriented to provide the highest quality puppies and they are proud of it. The environment and care they provide for their puppies are one of the most important aspects of what they do. All pups are raised in a safe environment and they care for them with great consideration. They never keep their pups in cages; but instead of that they give them plenty of space to roam freely in large areas where they can develop fully, both physically and socially. Aside from that, Lucky Pup Ranch treats its puppies like family and understands they will go on and become part of other families. As such, each puppy is trained and treated lovingly. Golden Retriever Breeder Info:. We have been breeding and showing Golden Retrievers for over 20 years. Many of our Goldens have gone on to win numerous awards at competitions throughout the U. I wanted to reach out and send some photos of Gus who is now a little over a year old. He has gotten into Dock Diving in the last few months and has earned his Dock Senior title. Thank you for a great dog! When I tell you that he did it with no effort, I'm not exaggerating. He did it all on his own! I think he would have passed the test when I received him in July. I think you and your staff should be very proud of the training you provide your puppies! Please thank everyone who worked with Dwayne. In two weeks, he will become a therapy dog with Easter Seals of Alabama. Jen was so helpful, knowledgeable, and professional throughout the whole adoption process. She communicated regularly with us, providing so many updates and videos along the way. We are so fortunate for her and her staff! Thank you Jen and Eagleridge Golden Retrievers!! Jen was always super responsive, knowledgeable and able to answer our many questions. We have had Kevin for about a month and a half now we got him in September and he is settling in perfectly. The training program was a great addition, he is able to follow commands and is very well tempered and so smart. From the adoption process to the training program, we would absolutely recommend this breeder to anyone looking for a great experience! This FL boy is definitely enjoying the Northeastern Autumn! Furthermore, being a client since , I could honestly compare the experience from four 4 years ago to this present time. It was as stress free working with Jen Francis as it could possibly be! The search for new housing can take weeks, and with some places a meet-and-greet is required prior to signing a lease. The more time spent to find the right place makes for a smooth and simple move. Be honest: the amount of pets you have; what size, weight, and breed they are; what hardware and supplies they have; and the temperament of the pets. Sneaking pets into no-pet housing can be detrimental to the pets, as well as the reputation of other pet owners, and it is strongly ill-advised to do it. Get animal referrals, if you can, from your veterinarian, previous landlords and roommates. This will give the potential landlord an idea of what to expect from an objective point of view. Crate train your dogs if possible so that the landlord will be comfortable knowing the dog will be safe and secure while you are not home. While all allow pets, most have restrictions in terms of: number of pets, weight of pets, restricted breeds, and acceptance of exotics. Since many of these listings are apartment complexes or communities, they are geared towards owners with a max of 3 animals, usually cats or dogs, that are smaller and non-aggressive. All cats and dogs must be spayed and neutered and up to date on vaccines. You can read about his guidelines on pets and pet-friendly rentals later in this document. You can call Cory at —.The Asheville listings that are cat and dog friendly are found here. Similar to the rental communities, private owners are usually pet friendly with restrictions like breed, weight, and number of pets. Some owners are more flexible than others and pet restrictions will be negotiated on an individual basis. There is usually a non-refundable pet deposit. This is a good resource for if you are moving to a new state, county, etc. Discussing credit and rental history at the first introduction will show responsibility as a tenant. Not only will these documents show your character and responsibility as a pet owner but they will also provide the potential landlord a summary of what to expect from you and your pets behaviors. If prior rental history cannot be provided or if credit is less than perfect, offer an additional pet deposit or negotiate with the landlord. This ensures that they are less likely to bite, spray urinating to mark territory , and stray from the property — all of which are costly consequences for the landlord. It is a good idea to offer to pay a more upfront pet deposit or to take care of the deep clean of the property before vacating, including paying to have the carpets cleaned. This may help ease their mind in terms of leasing to a pet owner. Rental Agencies.

Like all things in life, breeding for health is simply a matter of priority. We are blind to many of the breed priorities that distract other breeders from improving the health of the English Bulldog. We focus on health and personality and very little else. We are not interested in winning a blue ribbon in the show ring. Rather, we test for things like elongated soft palates, narrow tracheas, stenotic nares, luxation in the patellar tendons, heart defects, cherry eye, optic cilia, entropion, ect. We focus and prioritize creating healthy bloodlines, therefore our bulldogs are typically much healthier than the breed as a whole. After breeding for health, what other priorities are you focused on? Our true desire is to create the perfect family bulldog. We also believe a bulldog bred for the correct personality is essential to the family unit as well. A Bruiser Bulldog is bred for intelligence and playfulness. We want our bulldogs to be full of personality and some quirk. We believe a full personality along with a little stubbornness is the true North star of the bulldog breed and is what makes the unique among other breeds. We look for these personality traits in our adult bulldogs and continue to create bloodlines that reflect these qualities. What are the steps of your adoption process if I am located in Arizona? Check out our available English Bulldog Puppies page. At times, we have available puppies but almost always have a waiting list as well. A quick look at our available puppies is the starting point to begin the process. Send us an email or give us call .If approved to adopt one of our puppies you are welcome to place a deposit to hold until your puppy is ready to go home. Greetings from the Wysongs! I am familiar with common and uncommon health problems they may face so when my boyfriend and I decided we were ready to adopt our own english puppy finding a reputable breeder that prioritizes health was most important to us. Erica and Mitch of Bruiser Bulldogs are just that. They are experienced, ethical and quality breeders. I was referred to them by my friend that I trust after I saw their gorgeous healthy puppy. Our Puppy Primrose is the light of our lives! Bruisers was there to assist us every step of the way. We would highly recommend Bruisers Bulldogs to anyone looking for their own happy, healthy pup! Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We would highly recommend Bruiser Bulldogs to anyone looking for an English Bulldog to join their family. Elizabeth W. Lady L. They are experienced, responsive and knowledgeable about all things bulldog related. They went above and beyond for us and are truly dedicated to all of their pups! We love our little girl so much and would recommend Bruiser to anyone looking for a healthy beautiful bully. Jonathan E. Erica and Mitch are trustworthy, excellent communicators, fair, passionate, and produce the best bulldogs. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. We couldn't be happier when we picked up our dog Ramsey, Erica made sure we had everything we needed and then some. They are truly amazing people who breed truly amazing dogs! Jim T. She is petite in height but true to her breed traits, strong, feisty but very affectionate. She really enjoys her human companionship so she would do best in. She can be goofy and comical, mischievous, playful and sometimes stubborn but very endearing. She loves, loves, loves toys, especially when you are interacting. Because she loves toys so much and wants to be the queen of them all, we recommend no young children and she should be the only dog as she is not a fan of sharing and does not like other dogs. She was adopted out in March, but her owner who lived alone, became very sick. He described her as adorable and a great companion. Penny does have some ear issues and will likely require ongoing medication to manage this. Penny loves to laze around and although she enjoys walks, she is a home body and prefers to be indoors in her bed or cuddling on the couch. She is housetrained and good in the home. She would like a family who will provide her all the comforts of home and prefers not to be crated, but would rather curl up nicely in her own bed or cuddle up next to you. Penny is current on all shots, spayed and microchipped. Apply to adopt Penny at lovar. September 11, , am. Fatal crash closes Interstate 10 in Marana Keep scrolling for a ranking of the most popular dog breeds in America In a press release posted online, the college said: "The English Bulldog has risen sharply in popularity in the UK over the past decade. However, its distinctive and exaggerated short muzzle, protruding lower jaw and stocky body shape has been linked with several serious health and welfare issues, including breathing problems, skin and ear diseases and eye disorders. Here are five dog breeds that prefer to spend their time napping rather than running around outside. English bulldogs like to stay inside because they can overheat easily if they are out in the sun. They are also extremely friendly, loving, and low maintenance. Chow Chows are so lazy that their behavior is often compared to that of a cat. They are also very independent dogs, so they will not mind when you leave for work in the morning. Shih Tzus are often happy to just wander around the house and only need to be let outside for an occasional bathroom break. Cavalier King Charles spaniels were originally bred to sit on the laps of royalty. This dog breed likes to spend its time relaxing and being adored by its owners. Boston terriers are great dogs for people who live in apartments or small spaces. They only need one short walk every day to keep them fit and healthy The RVC's VetCompass program compared the health of random samples of 2, English bulldogs and 22, dogs of other breeds. It found the bulldogs were more than twice as likely to have one or more disorders in a single year than other breeds. Some of the most common health problems included skin-fold dermatitis, cherry eye a prolapsed eyelid gland , protruding lower jaw, and brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome severe breathing problems related to a dog's flat face shape , which was 19 times more common than in other dog breeds. The bulldog was developed centuries ago in England for use in fighting bulls. Characteristically powerful and often vicious, the breed almost disappeared when dog-fighting was outlawed in .However, enthusiasts saved it by breeding out its ferocity. The vets argue that the public should embrace the breed's more natural look, saying: "In the future, the English Bulldog should become recognised and loved for having a longer face, smaller head and non-wrinkled skin, representing a more moderate and healthier conformation. Until then, prospective owners should 'stop and think before buying a flat-faced dog'. Bill Lambert, health, welfare and breeder services executive at the Kennel Club, said in the statement: "As this research shows, there are increasing numbers of Bulldogs bred outside any sphere of influence and in a certain way because it is perceived to be 'cute', with little regard for health and welfare. A collaborative approach to tackling these issues is crucial; we must continue to work together with breeders, vets and welfare organisations to reduce and ultimately eliminate the health problems faced by brachycephalic flat-faced breeds, as well as reduce mass demand for these dogs. The AKC only analyzes data dealing with purebred, registered breeds, so sadly, your sweet mixed-breed pal isn't counted in the final tally. Still, the list includes a great variety of dogs, from tiny lap dogs and mighty hunters to prime show dogs and companions for royalty. The sheer amount of breeds that are ranked is a reminder of the diverse taste of dog owners in America, and the many different types of pups that we love. Several obvious factors create a breed's national popularity year in and year out: ideal size, maintenance, hypoallergenic coats, disposition, temperament, and of course name recognition. If you are owning your first dog for companionship in a city apartment, easy choices are reliable, compact French bulldogs or Boston terriers. Choosing the first family dog for small children and ample backyard space make retrievers or labradors a traditional option. Border terriers have been known to annihilate the competition in Earthdog trials. Photo outfit ideas, wedding planning tips and more. All my best advice. I spent hours reading about the best treats, toys, gear for puppies so that we had everything for our little guy before he arrived. As we are gearing up for my sister-in-law and aunt to bring home their new goldendoodle puppies, I thought a little blog post about my favorite things would be helpful to all the puppy parents and the soon-to-be puppy parents out there. Here is my must-have list for your goldendoodle puppy! We kept Clifton in here at night and when we would leave the house. This one fits perfectly with the crate. We used these to create a safe little area for Clifton once we stopped crate training him to be in. This clips right into the seat belt and on to any harness. This spray helps prevent your dog from chewing on things like your furniture, shoes, etc. You will be using this spray every time there is an accident in the house those first few weeks. We still use this spray 5 years later. Harness : We recently purchased this harness , and we LOVE this one and would recommend this to anyone with a pup as this harness is a little trickier to wiggle out of. Clifton has a medium he weighs about 30 pounds. Collar : We have a bunch of different collars that we switch between, but I love this cognac leather collar for every day. We have this one , and as soon as we switched to this, Clifton walked so much better and stopped pulling. Some of my current favorites are this modern set which is great because it includes a stand. Did You Feed the Dog? I love the smell of it. John Paul Pet Lavender Mint Detangling Spray : Doodles get matted super easily, so we add this detangling spray into our grooming routine to help with the matting. Andis Pet Steel Comb : If you can keep your furbaby mat-free this comb is great for combing him or her out. Safari Dematting Comb : You are going to need a de-matting comb to helpwith matting especially as your puppy gets older. It is the best thing we have bought, and we use it all the time. Start doing this when they are little. We love this little set that includes the toothpaste, brush and finger brush. Towel : We keep two of these pet towels in the bathroom where we give Clifton a bath. They are great at absorbing the water after a bath. We also pack these when we take him to the dog beach or Florida. Mushers Secret Paw Wax : If your pup lives in a cold climate, this is perfect for their dry, cracked paws that will come in winter. Shopping for toys was one of my favorite parts when I first started shopping for Clifton. My advice is not to buy too many toys at first like I did. Your puppy is going to destroy those cute, stuffed animals quickly. Grab a few because they make for some cute photos and toys around the house, but also stock up on things that will help when they need to chew. One thing to keep in mind when getting toys is to avoid any rope toys. Pups can eat the strings and have them wrap around their intestines — which is NOT good. So just skip them altogether. It is supposed to help transition them because it has a battery heartbeat and a pouch to make it warm. If you can, ask the breeder to rub it on his mom or the other puppies so it smells like them.

Although a playful pup sounds endearing, consider how many games of fetch or tag you want to play each day, and whether you have kids or other dogs who can stand in as playmates for the dog. Click here for more information on this characteristic French Bulldog Overview Bat-eared but oddly beautiful, the French Bulldog has a unique appeal. Aesthetically, other breeds undeniably are more glamorous and showy, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and what many behold in the French Bulldog are the attributes that make this breed one of the best companion dogs in the world today. The French Bulldog is small but substantial in build with a powerful muscular body. He sports a short easy-care coat to accompany his easygoing personality. The Frenchie likes to play, but he also enjoys spending his days relaxing on the sofa. That love of play and relaxed attitude carry over into their training sessions. French Bulldogs are intelligent, and training them is easy as long as you make it seem like a game and keep it fun. They are free thinkers and are not an ideal breed for competing in obedience or agility although some have risen to the challenge. This freethinking approach can also lead to a stubborn nature, and if they decide to dig in their heels there is no budging them. Frenchies are loving companions who thrive on human contact. If you want an outdoor dog who can be left alone for long periods, the Frenchie is not the breed for you. This is a dog who enjoys lavishing love on his human companions as much as he loves the same treatment in return. They generally get along well with everyone, including children. They can, however, be territorial and possessive of their people, especially in the presence of other dogs. Socialization is a must for this breed, but with their easy companionship this is an enjoyable task. With a nature that is both humorous and mischievous, the French Bulldog needs to live with someone who is consistent, firm, and patient with all the antics and idiosyncrasies that make him both frustrating and delightful. They can be protective of their home and family and some will try to defend both with their life. French Bulldogs do not need a lot of room and do very well in apartments or small dwellings. A couple of minute walks per day should keep them from becoming overweight. Keep the Frenchie in cool, comfortable surroundings. This is not a dog who can stay outside on a hot day. French Bulldogs are wonderful companion dogs with a gentle nature. If you work at home, the Frenchie is happy to lie at your feet all day or follow you from room to room. French Bulldogs also became popular with the French upper class, and they were often depicted in paintings and sculptures. French Bulldogs were first brought to the United States in the late s, and they quickly became popular with American families. The dogs were known for their friendly and playful personality, and they made great companions for children. French Bulldogs also became popular with celebrities, and they were often featured in movies and television shows. Today, French Bulldogs are one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. They are known for their friendly and playful personality, their low-maintenance coat, and their adaptability to different living conditions. French Bulldogs make great companions for people of all ages and lifestyles. The French Bulldog thrived in France and Europe, and his charm was soon discovered by Americans as well. Males weigh 20 to 28 pounds, females 16 to 24 pounds. French Bulldog Personality This is a smart, loving dog who wants and needs to spend lots of time with his people. Hip dysplasia can exist with or without clinical signs. Some dogs exhibit pain and lameness on one or both rear legs. As the dog ages, arthritis can develop. Dogs with hip dysplasia should not be bred. Ask the breeder for proof that the parents have been tested for hip dysplasia and found to be free of problems. Brachycephalic Syndrome : This disorder is found in dogs with short heads, narrowed nostrils, or elongated or soft palates. Their airways are obstructed to varying degrees and can cause anything from noisy or labored breathing to total collapse of the airway. Dogs with brachycephalic syndrome commonly snuffle and snort. Treatment varies depending on the severity of the condition but includes oxygen therapy as well as surgery to widen nostrils or shorten palates. Allergies: Allergies are a common problem in dogs. The medication for inhalant allergies depends on the severity of the allergy. It is important to note that ear infections often accompany inhalant allergies. Hemivertebrae: This is a malformation of one or more vertebrae that causes it to be shaped like a wedge or triangle. This malformation can occur on its own or with other vertebrae malformations. Hemivertebra can cause no problems, or it can put pressure on the spinal cord. This can lead to pain, weakness, and or paralysis. There is no treatment for the condition unless there is spinal cord pressure. It is caused when the patella, which has three parts — the femur thigh bone , patella knee cap , and tibia calf — is not properly lined up and slips in and out of place luxates. This causes lameness or an abnormal gait the way the dog moves. The rubbing caused by patellar luxation can lead to arthritis, a degenerative joint disease. There are four grades of patellar luxation ranging from grade I, an occasional luxation causing temporary lameness in the joint, to grade IV, in which the turning of the tibia is severe and the patella cannot be realigned manually. This gives the dog a bowlegged appearance. Severe grades of patellar luxation may require surgical repair. When the disc pushes into the spinal cord, nerve transmissions are inhibited from traveling along the spinal cord. Intervertebral Disc Disease can be caused by trauma, age, or simply from the physical jolt that occurs when a dog jumps off a sofa. When the disc ruptures, the dog usually feels pain and the ruptured disc can lead to weakness and temporary or permanent paralysis. In some cases surgery can help, but it must be done within a day or so of the injury. You may also want to ask your veterinarian about physical rehabilitation. Treatments such as massage, water treadmills and electrical stimulation are available for dogs and can have excellent success. It affects the clotting process due to the reduction of von Willebrand factor in the blood. Occasionally blood is found in the stool. This disorder is usually diagnosed in your dog between the ages of 3 and 5 and cannot be cured. However, it can be managed with treatments that include cauterizing or suturing injuries, transfusions of the von Willebrand factor before surgery, and avoiding certain medications. Cleft Palate : The palate is the roof of the mouth and separates the nasal and oral cavities. It is made up of two parts, hard and soft. A cleft palate has a slit that runs bilaterally or unilaterally and can range in size from a small hole to a large slit. A cleft palate can affect both the hard and soft palate separately and together and may cause a cleft lip. Puppies can be born with cleft palates, or a cleft palate can occur from an injury. Cleft palates are fairly common in dogs, but many puppies born with a cleft palate do not survive or are euthanized by the breeder. The only treatment for a cleft palate is surgery to close the hole, although not all dogs with a cleft palate require the surgery. It is important to get a diagnosis and treatment recommendation from your veterinarian. Elongated Soft Palate: The soft palate is the extension of the roof of the mouth. When the soft palate is elongated, it can obstruct airways and cause difficulty in breathing. The treatment for Elongated Soft Palate is surgical removal of the excess palate. Health clearances prove that a dog has been tested for and cleared of a particular condition. You can confirm health clearances by checking the OFA web site offa. Regardless of how healthy your dog is when you first bring them home, you should prepare for any issues that may come up throughout their life. French Bulldog Care French Bulldogs do not need a lot of exercise. They have fairly low energy levels, although there are exceptions to every rule. To keep their weight down, however, they need daily exercise through short walks or play times in the yard. Many French Bulldogs enjoy playing and will spend much of their time in various activities, but they are not so high energy that they need a large yard or long periods of exercise. This breed is prone to heat exhaustion and should not be exercised in hot temperatures. Limit walks and active play to cool mornings and evenings. When training a French Bulldog, take into account that although they are intelligent and usually eager to please, they are also free thinkers. That means they can be stubborn. It is important to crate train your French Bulldog puppy even if you plan to give him the freedom of the house when he reaches adulthood. French Bulldog Feeding Recommended daily amount: 1 to 1. NOTE: How much your adult dog eats depends on his size, age, build, metabolism, and activity level. It almost goes without saying that a highly active dog will need more than a couch potato dog. For more on feeding your Frenchie, see our guidelines for buying the right food , feeding your puppy , and feeding your adult dog. The skin is loose and wrinkled, especially at the head and shoulders, and has a soft texture. French Bulldogs come in a variety of colors, including fawn, cream, various shades of brindle — a coat patterned with specks and streaks of light and dark markings — such as black brindle and the striking tiger brindle, and brindle and white, known as brindle pied. French Bulldogs can be any color except solid black, liver a solid reddish-brown with brown pigmentation on the lips and nose , mouse a light steely gray , and black with white or tan. Run from any breeder who tells you that a particular color is rare and thus worth more money. Having your heart set on a fawn female is a recipe for disappointment when the litter contains only cream and brindle males. French Bulldogs are fairly easy to groom and need only an occasional brushing to keep their coat healthy. They are average shedders. Begin grooming your Frenchie at a young age and teach your puppy to stand on a table or floor to make this experience easier on both of you. When you are grooming your Frenchie at any stage of life, take the time to check for any scabs, skin lesions, bare spots, rough, flaky skin, or signs of infections. You should also check ears, eyes and teeth for any discharge or bad smells. Both are signs that your Frenchie may need to see the veterinarian. Clean ears regularly with a damp warm cloth and run a cotton swab around the edge of the canal. Never stick the cotton swab into the actual ear canal. If the edges of the ears are dry, apply mineral or baby oil sparingly. The oil can also be used on a dry nose. French Bulldogs do not naturally wear their nails down and will need their nails trimmed regularly. This prevents splitting and tearing, which can be painful for the dog. Keep the facial wrinkles clean and dry to prevent bacterial infections. Whenever you bathe your dog, take the time to thoroughly dry the skin between the folds. Bathe your French Bulldog monthly or as needed, and use a high-quality dog shampoo to keep the natural oils in his skin and coat. French Bulldogs should be easy to groom, and with proper training and positive experiences during puppyhood, grooming can be a wonderful bonding time for you and your Frenchie. That said, no dog should ever be left alone with a young child. When they are socialized to them during puppyhood, Frenchies can get along well with other dogs and cats. French Bulldog Rescue Groups French Bulldogs are often acquired without any clear understanding of what goes into owning one, and these dogs often end up in the care of rescue groups, in need of adoption or fostering. All dogs will need veterinary care at some point in their lives. French Bulldog Breed Organizations Finding a reputable dog breeder is one of the most important decisions you will make when bringing a new dog into your life. Reputable breeders are committed to breeding healthy, well-socialized puppies that will make great companions. They will screen their breeding stock for health problems, socialize their puppies from a young age, and provide you with lifetime support. On the other hand, backyard breeders are more interested in making a profit than in producing healthy, well-adjusted dogs. They may not screen their breeding stock for health problems, and they may not socialize their puppies properly. As a result, puppies from backyard breeders are more likely to have health problems and behavioral issues. Below are breed clubs, organizations, and associations where you can find additional information about the French Bulldog. The early months are critical. The timing is vital. Some apply to all dogs, such as distemper and rabies. If your French Bulldog is in contact with other pups, you should get him a kennel cough vaccine. Likewise, if you take him on the trail with you, consider getting him a Lyme disease vaccine. They are starting to learn social skills and how they fit in the hierarchy with their littermates. They are becoming more independent and starting to show signs of their unique personalities that will define them as adults. Socialization is critical at this age as it will determine how well he gets along with other people and pets. Anything is fair game for this pup. You can transition him to a dog food for pups at this life stage. A French Bulldog reaches his adult size at 12 months. Unfortunately, this pup has a relatively high tendency to gain weight. That puts him at risk for many chronic health conditions that can complicate the ones associate with him being a brachycephalic breed. Of course, our Frenchie friends also have a reputation for being a high-class breed. Historically, the French Bulldog was so elite that one pooch named Gamin de Pycombe was one of only 13 dogs aboard the Titanic. So what are French Bulldogs really like? Want to learn some facts about Frenchies? Keep reading! About the Breed Classified as a companion dog, the French Bulldog is an incredible family dog and one of the top 10 breeds in the United States. These pups are sweet and friendly people pleasers who adore cuddling, enjoy following you from room to room, and love being the center of attention, especially when they have an audience. Fully grown, the average, healthy weight for a French Bulldog is pounds, and they stand approximately 12 inches tall at the shoulder. The average French Bulldog lifespan is years, but life expectancy can be affected by many factors. These pups are cousins to the English Bulldog, which descended from the Bullenbeisser sport dogs, a subfamily of the ancient Greek Molossian breed that was originally used for bull-baiting. When blood sports were outlawed in England in , English Bulldogs emerged as companion dogs and were bred with terriers and Pugs to reduce their size. The toy size became very popular among the lace workers in Nottingham because these docile and loyal pooches would warm the workers' laps by day and rid the workshops of rats by night. The Industrial Revolution mechanized laceworks in England, and many of these skilled workers immigrated to France, taking their pups with them. The curious toy-sized, bat-eared bulldogs were an instant hit with the French bohemians. Soon writers, artists, fashion designers, and working girls all over Paris were requesting the lovable pups. The English breeders couldn't believe their luck—they'd always considered the breed's ears a flaw. So, they happily began sending over all of the bat-eared bulldogs, whom the French began calling Bouledogue Francais, as in boule for "ball" and dogue for "mastiff" or "molosser. The breed first appeared in the United States in the late 19th century. They were very well received, earning the nickname "Frenchie," as well as the affection of notable pet parents like the Rockefeller and J. Morgan families. Attributes Aside from their size and bat-like ears, what makes French Bulldogs unique? In addition to the elongated ears, other key differences from the English Bulldog include more alert facial expressions, rounder eyes, and a wider range of motion. Appearance French Bulldogs keep a low center of gravity with their compact, muscular build and large, square head, and they walk with a recognizable bow-legged gait. A brachycephalic, or "flat-faced" breed, these pooches have those adorable smooshy faces that are just perfect for smooching. Their skin is loose and soft, forming wrinkles at the head and shoulders. Frenchies have a short, smooth coat that comes in a variety of colors. Most commonly, their coat color comes in shades of brindle, fawn, or tan. They can also be white with brindle patches, an effect known as "pied. French Bulldogs are easygoing, fun-loving additions to any family. True companion dogs, they thrive on human contact. They are patient with children, friendly with strangers, and loyal to their pet parents—sometimes to the point of being overly protective. Since they can be territorial, remember that socialization at a young age is a good idea. These social butterflies also enjoy the company of other canine companions. Despite yearning for affection, Frenchies make excellent watchdogs because they hardly ever bark without reason. This trait also makes them a good fit for apartment dwellers who might worry about their pooch disturbing the neighbors. Grooming and Care With a short, fine coat, your Frenchie's grooming needs will be fairly easy to maintain. You'll want to brush your pal weekly with a rubber hound glove or soft bristle brush. During the fall and spring shedding seasons, you can remove any excess hair with a stripping comb. French Bulldogs need a bath about once a month. Just make sure you use a high-quality doggie shampoo, and follow these tips for bathing wrinkly dogs. It's very important that you keep your pup's wrinkles clean and always check for scabs or lesions that could lead to infections. Make sure to clean their ears regularly with a damp cloth and keep up with nail trimming, too. Special Care Tips Frenchies are fairly low energy and don't need a lot of exercise. However, make sure your pooch is still getting a couple of minute walks a day and some low-key playtime. They don't need a lot of room; just a ball and a little open space will do. Be that as it may, it's very important to know the signs of heat exhaustion in your dog. Due to your pal's bulky shape, naturally compacted airway, and thin coat, they have a tough time regulating their body temperature and are thus susceptible to overheating. If you live in a hot climate, your Frenchie will be safer if you have air conditioning in your home. Limit walk times to early mornings and late evenings when the temperatures are more comfortable. Also, always make sure your pup has access to shade and water if they are outside. Similarly, in cold weather, dress your canine companion in an extra layer to be safe. If you're planning a trip, be aware that some commercial airlines do not allow French Bulldogs to travel. Due to the low temperatures in the cargo space, it can be dangerous to your Frenchie's health if they were to fly. Additionally, French Bulldogs are not good swimmers, so if you own a swimming pool, make sure your pup does not have access. Training French Bulldogs French Bulldogs are relatively intelligent little pooches, so training can be a positive experience for both of you, especially if you incorporate lots of food, praise, and play. Make training feel like a game, and remember that Frenchies are people pleasers by nature. They are sensitive and respond far better to rewards than criticism. French Bulldogs are free thinkers, which can lead to stubbornness. This also means that they are not the best-suited breed for obedience and agility competitions. But with patience and consistency, housetraining and a few tricks should be easy enough to accomplish. This affects dogs with that classic short head and narrow nostril combination and can result in all that adorable snoring and grunting that Frenchies are known for. But, unfortunately, it can also lead to complete airway collapse. Other respiratory issues include allergies and elongated soft palate, which can obstruct the airways. French Bulldogs are prone to chronodysplasia, a general term for back, spine, and disc issues. Of these, the most common are hemivertebrae, a malformation of the vertebrae that puts pressure on the spinal cord, and Intervertebral Disc Disease IVDD , which is caused by a ruptured or herniated disc. These pups also have a lot of experience with hip dysplasia and patellar luxation, or having their kneecap slip out of place. In terms of blood disorders, Frenchies are predisposed to Von Willebrand's Disease, a condition that affects clotting ability. Early signs include nosebleeds, bleeding gums, prolonged bleeding. No one dog breed is completely immune to all health problems, so it is important to take your pooch to the veterinarian for their regular checkups. The most common health problems include airway obstruction, ear infections, diarrhea, and butterfly hemivertebrae. Additionally, many Frenchies have trouble reproducing and require artificial insemination , with more than two-thirds of litters born this way. History of the French Bulldog The origins of the French Bulldog are closely tied to the English Bulldog and other Bulldogs that took part in bull-baiting. These dogs would lay flat on the ground and creep towards the bulls to get close, in an attempt to bite their nose or other sensitive areas like the neck to bring them down. Bull-baiting was a popular sport in England but was banned in , leaving many Bulldogs without a job. Around the same time, workers from Nottingham, England, began settling in Normandy, France, after being displaced by the Industrial Revolution. In a similar story to the origins of many other dog breeds, these workers brought their Bulldogs with them. However, not all Bulldogs become favorable in France. The smaller breeds which weighed 25 to 40 lbs were favored over the others. Historical notes also suggest these small Bulldogs were bred with Pugs and Terrier-type dogs to meet the liking of the French elites. A few decades after first arriving in France, these smaller Bulldogs became thought of as a separate breed. People referred to them as Bouledogue Francais translating to French Bulldog. In , imports of the French Bulldogs to the US increased to make an American-based breeding program. The dogs that were a part of this breeding program became close companions of the elite class — influential families like the Rockefellers and J. By , the French Bulldog became the fifth most popular breed in the United States. They make excellent companion dogs that do well in families of all sizes and are patient with children. When introduced to other pets in the family slowly and cautiously, French Bulldogs do well with them, including cats. However, they might boss around smaller dogs in the pack. Being a naturally loyal dog breed, French Bulldogs may pick one person in the house and become overly protective of them. Overall, French Bulldogs today are incredible companion dogs that require minimal exercise. Short walks of fifteen to twenty minutes are enough to keep this breed healthy. This trait makes them excellent indoor pets, and with enough affection from their humans, French Bulldogs will return the favor. Rough vs. Smooth Coat Boxers have two different types of coats, a rough coat, and a smooth coat. The most common type is the short smooth coat, which is considered to be the breed standard. However, some boxers have a longer coat that is more prone to matting. Boxer Dog Ears — Pros and Cons of Floppy Ears Boxers have a very distinctive look due to their short legs, large heads, and ears that flop over like an open book. But while these floppy ears give boxers one of their most lovable quirks, they can also cause some problems for your dog! Here are some pros and cons of boxer dog ears: Pro: Their floppy ears make it easier for them to pick up sounds. Con: Boxer dog ears can easily become infected if not cleaned and dried properly. The Appearance of Boxer Dog All boxers have a short, muscular build and a face that is characteristic of the breed. You can give them dry kibble formulas with meat or bone content that provides all the necessary nutrients together with fresh water at all times. If your dog is particularly active and requires even more calories, you should consider giving them specially formulated food from a reputable pet store. Boxer Dog Breed Grooming Boxers have short coats which shed very little so all you need to do is brush their coats on a weekly basis with a rubber glove or a dense-bristled brush to keep them shiny and healthy. If your dog has long hair, however, you should expect some matting at the base of his tail which will need to be groomed out every weeks. However, you should wipe their muzzles with a moist towel every day after they eat to ensure no food is left behind which can lead to plaque forming on their teeth. You also need to check their ears for signs of infection such as swelling, redness, and the presence of a bad odor which could indicate an ear infection. You should also clip their nails every month or two depending on how fast they grow and take care not to cut down too close to the quick because this will cause pain for your dog and bleeding if it goes too deep. Exercise Requirements for Boxer Dog Breed Boxers need a lot of exercises to stay healthy and happy, so you should aim for at least one long walk or jog per day in addition to some interactive playtime inside the home. This could be as simple as playing fetch in the garden or wrestling with your dog on the living room floor. Just make sure the yard is securely fenced in to keep them from running off and getting lost. Overall, boxer dogs are wonderful pets who love spending time with their families. They are easy to train and groom, and they will reward you with years of unconditional love and companionship. Fetch: Boxers just love to fetch, and it is a great way to give them some exercise. They will sprint around after the ball before bringing it back and dropping it at your feet for another throw. Swimming: Many Boxers love to swim, so they excel in water retrieval classes. Just remember not to let them get overtired by swimming for too long because it can cause problems with their joints later on. Tug of War: Boxers are very social dogs who enjoy playing games that revolve around interaction with you and other dogs like tug of war and keep away. They will also be more focused during training sessions if you play these types of games with them regularly. Agility: Boxers like to show off their intelligence, so they are smart enough to learn how to walk through an obstacle course with agility equipment. Weight Pulling: Boxers have strong muscles which make them great weight pull dogs because they can pull around sleds or wagons full of weights with ease. Dog Dancing: If you want your dog to be able to play games based on rhythm and movement, teaching them how to do some cool dances like the hippo, polka-dot-bear, grapevine twist, etc. Frisbee: Boxers are great frisbee dogs, and they will love to run after a flying disc as quickly as they can, so this is an excellent way for you to have some active games together. Training Sessions: You should take your boxer to training sessions on a regular basis to keep them sharp and focused. They will learn a variety of skills including how to jump through hoops, walk across a balance beam, hold objects in their mouth for you, etc. Kong Toy: A Kong toy is a great way to keep your boxer entertained. Stuff it with some of their favorite treats and then let them try to get the treats out by playing with it. Hide and Seek: Hide and seek is another game that boxers love to play, so you can keep them entertained by hiding around the house and letting them find you. They will use their excellent sense of smell to sniff you out and be excited when they finally find you. Dog Casino: If your dog likes to play games like roulette, blackjack, or poker then teaching them how to play a doggie casino version will keep them happy for hours. Just try giving them treats like chicken nuggets, string cheese, hot dogs, or anything else that they love as rewards for winning. Puzzle Toys: Puzzle toys are a great way to keep your boxer mentally stimulated because they have to figure out how to get the treats out of the toy by using their brains. Hunting: Boxers were originally bred to be hunting dogs, so they have the natural instincts and abilities to track down animals like rabbits, squirrels, and birds. If you let them loose in a large open area they will be sure to have a lot of fun chasing after their prey. Training Requirements for Boxer Dog Breed Boxers are very intelligent dogs who always want to please their owners, so all you need to do is tell them what you want them to do in a firm but kind voice and they will be happy to repeat that behavior. Praise your boxer while you do this, and the moment all four feet are flat on the ground, give him the treat. You can start by leading your Boxer into a designated area where you want him to stay at the center of the room or in front of a piece of furniture. Then place 2 treats in front of him with an open palm over each one. After seconds, take your palm away and tell him to stay. As soon as your Boxer obeys, tell him what an excellent dog he is and allow him to eat the treats while praising and petting him for his good behavior. Repeat this exercise several times until he learns that whenever you place your hand over food, it means stay where you are. After several days of practice, you can remove one treat at a time so that it is easier for him to focus on just one remaining treat. Start by standing in the center of the room while your boxer plays off-leash in another room which you can see through a window or door. If your boxer does start toward you, encouragingly smile at him while he approaches which should motivate him, even more, to continue coming towards you quickly. Repeat this exercise several times, gradually making the temptation more difficult like placing the toy on the floor next to a piece of trash. If he tries to follow the cookie with his eyes, keep it just out of reach until he locks onto your eyes instead. Once he has mastered the basics, start increasing your distance from him step-by-step before giving him the prize which will add more difficulty for a little extra challenge. Boxer dogs are highly loyal, loving, and affectionate dogs that make wonderful family pets for active families with older children who play outdoors regularly. Overall, Boxers are fantastic dogs that will give you many years of joy and happiness to keep you company on cold winter nights or lazy summer days! Feeding Requirements for Boxer Dogs Boxers are very energetic dogs with high metabolisms, so you need to make sure they get the right amount of food every day which is rich in protein. They can eat dry kibble formulas that are specially formulated for active dogs with high energy levels. Also, you should consider giving them some healthy treats including carrots or green beans to supplement their diets. If your boxer is very active, you might want to consider upgrading to a formula for large breeds or active dogs. Keep in mind that all of these foods are also wheat-free and grain-free to minimize the risk of allergies. Make sure you consult with your veterinarian to determine which food is best for your individual dog. This will help reduce the chance of passing these conditions onto your puppy. Also, make sure you take your Boxer to the veterinarian regularly for checkups and preventative treatments such as heartworm prevention medication to keep them in good health throughout their lives. If you have a puppy, make sure he gets his vaccinations on schedule and brings him to the veterinarian for regular checkups. If you get an adult Boxer from a breeder, make sure they bring their health clearances to prove they are free of these conditions before you commit to buying them. This can lead to puppies being bred who develop genetic health conditions and end up in shelters or worse. Here are 10 tips for finding a reputable Boxer dog breeder: 1. Do your research and ask around. Talk to your family and friends to see if they have any recommendations for good Boxer dog breeders. The breeder should be happy to show you where the puppies are living and let you meet both of their parents. Inquire about the sire The sire is just as important as the dam when it comes to producing healthy Boxer dogs so make sure you ask whether or not the breeder has any information on him besides his registration papers. If your breeder refuses to provide any information about him other than his AKC pedigree number, this may be an indication that he is being bred irresponsibly and that the puppies may not be healthy. These documents will show that the parents of the puppies were free from hip dysplasia and heart disease at the time of breeding. Request a contract A good Boxer dog breeder will always require you to sign a contract agreeing to care for the puppy for the rest of his life. The contract should also include a clause stating that if you are no longer able to keep the dog, you will return him to the breeder so that he can be placed in a good home. A good breeder will be able to tell you about the champions that have been produced by their dogs and may even be able to provide you with copies of their certificates. The breeder should be willing to let you take the puppy for a walk so you can see how he interacts with other dogs and how he takes direction. You can always find a different breeder who will provide you with the answers and services that you need. How Much is Boxer Dog Breed? Thousands of shares on Facebook and surveillance video helped bring Arizona back. The dog was stolen from a Petsmart adoption event over the weekend. Arizona is a hearing impaired four month old boxer puppy, seen being carried away by a thief in security footage from the Petsmart on Archer Road. It's unclear why the couple would steal Arizona, but managers at Petsmart think they came in with the intention to steal that particular dog. I think if this was her previous owner, and we don't know if it was, but we're not difficult people to work with. They could have spoken to any one of us and we would have done what's best for the dog like we always do," said Wheeler. All of Arizona's physical exams checked out. Police have not arrested anyone, and Wheeler said she's just glad arizona will have a safe and loving home. Arizona will be reunited with the Petsmart trainer who is adopting her Wednesday morning. It was all caught by surveillance cameras. Security footage from Saturday afternoon shows a woman walking out a dog during the adoption event held by Haile's Angels Pet Rescue. I don't know why someone would steal a dog," said Sorcha Schumpert, a dog trainer at the Petsmart on Archer Road. She said she's had her eye on Arizona, a deaf 4 month old boxer. This time, she was going to take her home. She finished the paperwork to adopt her, but was waiting for her shift to end. Schumpert said, "They're like 'do you have Arizona? Three minutes later, the woman is leaving the store with what looks like Arizona in her hands. After leaving the store, she bolted to her left where she was seen passing the Ross next door. Managers at Petsmart and volunteers with Haile's Angels think she came with the intention to steal this particular dog. It was just really quick. Haile's Angels' post on Facebook has more than shares. They are hoping someone spots Arizona soon. She has a docked tail which means it's really short. She does have one little black dot on her nose," said Wheeler. Most Read.

The puppies love it instead of being in a sink with a dry human just washing them. Water is actual playtime while they get clean and build positive experiences with being wet. Instead we utilize Puppy Culture, Badass Breeder protocols and tons of love from humans that are passionate and dedicated to what they do. Please feel free to contact us with any questions. Our Approach Our Approach We approach our Australian Labradoodle breeder program from a foundation of deep knowledge about and love of dogs and puppies. Our family has been raising fine dogs for three generations, and even great-grandma had a hobby litter or two of springer spaniels long before I was born. Our family dogs were always in our home, and they were always beloved members of our family. Here at Blossom Ranch, we continue to raise healthy, happy dogs to be beloved family companions. Many of our puppies also grow to be service dogs and therapy dogs. Lifelong experience with dogs and puppies enables us to develop Australian Labradoodle lines producing wonderful companions with exceptional temperaments, superior intelligence, and innate trainability. Along with a broad base of knowledge regarding all aspects of raising Labradoodle puppies, I have also been training dogs since early elementary school. I am very good at training dogs and puppies, and at problem solving when behaviors are not ideal. I personally discuss, with every Blossom Ranch adopter, all the training tips necessary to get your new Labradoodle puppy off to a great start. I have simple and effective tips for house-training, crate training, gently eliminating jumping, and every other common puppy challenge. I offer advice and support for all life stages of your Blossom Ranch pup — please call with any questions. Testimonials As a veterinarian I work with multiple breeders.
